NFL Draft Rounds 4 thru 7: Stover, Eichenberg Selected

Cade Stover selected in the fourth round by Houston; Tommy Eichenberg goes to Las Vegas in fifth

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two more Ohio State University football players were chosen Saturday afternoon/early evening in the fourth through seventh rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft, being held near Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. TE Cade Stover was taken in the fourth round, overall pick No. 123, by the Houston Texans; and Tommy Eichenberg was taken by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fifth round with the 148th overall pick.
 
Ohio State had four players selected in this year's draft. In addition to Stover and Eichenberg, WR Marvin Harrison Jr. was chosen in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals and DT Michael Hall Jr. was selected in the second round by the Cleveland Browns.
 
TE Cade Stover – 4th Round; 123rd overall pick (Houston Texans)
Two-time team captain Cade Stover, from Lexington, Ohio, was one of the top tight ends in the nation in 2023. He was a finalist for the John Mackey Award and he was named the Big Ten's Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year. Additionally:

  • Cade was with the program for five seasons – 2019-23 – and lettered four years;
  • He spent his final three seasons playing tight end after playing/practicing as a defensive end and linebacker his first two seasons;
  • He played in 38 of 39 games as a tight end from the 2021 through 2023 seasons and started 24 games;
  • He had a terrific 2023 season after a fine 2022 season when his receptions and yardage totals (36 for 406, respectively) were the most a Buckeye tight end in 28 years, or since Rickey Dudley had 37 and 575, respectively, in 1995
  • He caught 41 passes for 576 yards (14.0 yards per catch average) with five touchdowns in 2023 and was named first-team all-Big Ten Conference;
  • His career stats totals moved him into second-place all-time at Ohio State among tight ends with 82 receptions and 1,056 yards;
  • His 10 career TDs are tied for third-most among tight ends in school history; and
  • He has graduated with his degree in agricultural systems management.

LB Tommy Eichenberg – 5th Round; 148th overall pick (Oakland Raiders)
Eichenberg won the Big Ten Conference's Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year award in 2023 and was named first-team all-Big Ten Conference by the coaches and the media. The two-time team captain from Cleveland was also:
  • A three-year starter at linebacker for the Buckeyes who played a total of five seasons (2019-23);
  • An Ohio State graduate in the spring of 2023 with his degree in real estate;
  • A three-time Academic all-Big Ten honoree and a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete;
  • A veteran of 41 games played with 27 starts at linebacker;
  • A top tackler on the team with 82 tackles in 2023 despite missing three games because of injury and with 268 career tackles; 
  • Named a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, Sports Illustrated and Phil Steele; and
  • A semifinalist for the Butkus Award.
