Biography
While in the studio, the band met up with guitarist/producer Chad Ginsburg, whom they incorporated into the band. The first album, Volume 1, began to receive attention when Bam Margera, Jess' brother, released the widely popular CKY series of skateboarding videos featuring the band's music. Soon this spun off into an MTV stunt show called Jackass that became a cultural phenomenon of the early aughts, and with attention being drawn to them quickly, the band changed their name to an acronym at the request of their label. Bruni was released after their stint on the 1999 Van's Warped Tour and CKY added live bassist Vern Zaborowski to round out it's lineup. At this time, the band was growing into the height of its popularity and was known for a dedicated fan base known as "The CKY Alliance" gathering mainly on the internet.
Their next album, Infiltrate, Destroy, Rebuild, was well received by fans for better production qualities, including the addition of Ginsburg's Moog synthesizers. To correspond with the album, a DVD with a music video for each of the album's songs was released. Due to financial and commitment issues, the band was forced to fire Zaborowski. They soon picked back up with a new live bassist, Matt Deis of the hardcore group All That Remains. An Ånswer Can Be Found was released in the summer of 2005, to lukewarm fan reception. While on tour for the album, Miller had to check into a rehabilitation center for alcoholism.
Carver City, a concept album, was released on Roadrunner Records in 2009 with limited fanfare. At the end of the decade, with the band entering periods of inactivity and conflict, Miller left and was replaced by live vocalist Daniel Davies. The Ginsburg-led band released The Phoenix in 2017, and Deron now has a new group, 96 Bitter Beings, a name inspired by his most successful song from the early days of CKY.
