I chose this website because it looked like it had a lot of information about my topic and there were pictures on the side to help me. It also was last reviewed not too long ago so that shows that the information should be reliable and trustworthy. This site is related to what were are talking because the Ghost Dance movement basically led to the Wounded Knee Massacre.

Yesterday, on Dec. 10, 1890, a Sioux leader named Sitting Bull was arrested for allegedly being a Ghost Dancer. We await to see how the Indians will respond to this, especially since Sitting Bull was killed.

The three movies – Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and The Green Berets – are all movies based on the same historical event – the Vietnam war and US’s involvement in it. Yet, they all presented us with different and narrative point of view and authority figures in order to paint their individual values. The movies’ most obvious differences lie within the choice of their narrative point of view. The Green Beret, the earliest one, was directed by John Wayne and he also starred in the leading role. Wayne’s authority and influence in the 1960s was similar to the influence of Tom Hanks in the 21st Century.

Andrew Jackson is known for being a major advocate for the superfluous removal of the Native American tribes. Jackson was being oblivious when he decided that he should ignore the treaties signed with the natives. The president was exhibiting selfishness and naïveté by confiscating the lands of the natives, to which they rightfully owned. Jackson had forced the “five civilized tribes,” which were natives who had adopted their neighbor’s ideas. These tribes were forced to make a long and perilous journey to the west of the Mississippi River.

The difference in the two accounts is the prelude to the battle. According to Lakota Chief Red Horse, he with many Sioux Indians were only moving across the land in attempts to find a place to settle. When they did settle next to the Little Bighorn River, there were many Native Americans with them ten different tribes and eleven including themselves. The account from the military standpoint was the Sioux, and Cheyenne were hostile over the Black Hills and was corresponding with Sitting Bull. From the event of the Sioux Nation on the move, the U.S. Calvary dispatched three units to attack.

The 1870s, the time after the Civil War, was a decade of imperialism, great invention, reconstruction, labor unions and strikes, and the Sioux Wars. Especially The battle of the little Bighorn, was a crushing defeat for the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army under George Armstrong Custer. The 700 men strong 7th Cavalry Regiment were defeated by the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho, which were leaded by several important war leaders, including Crazy Horse and Chief Gall, Sitting Bull. The reason of the Sioux Wars, and so also of the battle of the little Bighorn, was that the Native Americans fight for their land. The Long, Bitter Trail: Andrew Jackson and the Indians written by Anthony F.C. Wallace is the story of the Native Americans being forced to move west in America in the 19th century. Wallace begins by introducing the desire for Native American land in the U.S. and ends with the aftermath of the Removal Policy and the legacy that still lives today. The book is organized into four chapters; The Changing Worlds of the Native Americans, The Conflict over Federal Indian Policy, The Removal Act, and The Trail of Tears.

Sitting Bull was considered a great leader and helped shape the way we treat Indians today. Throughout the 1800s the U.S. Government fought against many Indian tribes because of the rich land that promised gold. Sitting Bull and many others “set aside their differences in the face of intolerable abuse by the U.S. Government” (www.californiaindianeducation.org). Sitting Bull fought in wars and united with other tribes to protect his land.

Jackson ignored the Supreme Court. He continued forcing indians out the west. This journey is known as the Trail of Tears. One-fourth of indians died from this journey. Just because Jackson was put on the $20 bill doesn’t mean he did not do bad things.

Jackson planned on moving Native Americans west of the Mississippi River, to maintain the land many Native Americans called home. At first, Jackson proposed treaties to the Native Americans hoping for them to sign so he could deviously take their land. One of Jackson’s known tactics is lying, which he happened to do in this case, where he promised Native Americans that by moving west the were insuring a safe future. Conclusively, the Native Americans refused to sign the treaty as stated in Andrew Jackson and the Constitution, “Ultimately, he forcibly removed a number of tribes, most notoriously the Cherokee, from their homes.” (gilderlehrman.org) Numerous amounts of Native Americans were killed from their removal, this incident was known as the Trail of Tears.

It was a time when white men wanted to claim everything. They wanted to let Native Americans know they had all the fire power to do as they pleased. Sitting Bull did not agree to this IRA because in his speech he said loved the freedom to go where his people pleased, to hunt wherever, and set up teepees where they chose to set up home base. It was this act that led to Sitting Bull’s important speech. The additional information I knew prior to reading Sitting Bull’s speech is everything I had learned in high school about Native American history.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee- Charles Eastman Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a novel the describes the history of the struggles between the Native Americans and the Europeans in the late 19th century written by Dee Brown. In 2007, a movie was produce based on the novel. The storyline of the movie is centered around four main characters: Charles Eastman, Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Henry L. Dawes. Through different perspectives, the film wish to accurately depict the struggle of the Native Americans in their resettlements and the history of the massacre of the Natives at a place called the Wounded Knee.

The Patriot Sadness, hope, war and freedom The movie’s name is “The Patriot”. Mel Gibson plays the role of Benjamin Martin who is an American farmer in the 1800th century. Benjamin has the lead role in this movie. There are a lot of characters in the movie such as his son Gabriel (Heath Ledger) and his six other siblings.
