WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey — The Marietta College women's rowing team raced in the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championship Sunday (April 28) afternoon. The Pioneers varsity eight crew finished fourth on the Mercer Lake course.
With all crew in the morning heat guaranteed a spot in the afternoon final, the Pioneers used the morni9ng race as a warm-up and conserved energy for the afternoon final. Bryn Mawr won the morning heat with a time of 7:18.323, followed by St. Mary's (MD) (7:18:457), Washington College (7:18:543), Stockton (7:18:841), Catholic (7:19:117), Franklin and Marshall (7:39:189), and Marietta (7:51.485).
The Pioneers cut nearly 40 seconds off their morning time in the afternoon final. St. Mary's (MD) took home the gold medal crossing the finish line in 7:04.410, nearly three seconds ahead of Bryn Mawr (7:07.098). Stockton was closed behind with a time of 7:08.348 in third.
The closest race was between Marietta and Catholic for fourth place. The Pioneers edged Catholic at the line. Marietta posted a time of 7:12.456, three-tenths of a second ahead of Catholic (7:12.754). Washington College (7:13.854) was a second behind in sixth with Franklin and Marshall (7:39.650) in seventh.
Marietta will close out the season at the Dad Vail Regatta in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on May 10-11.
