Camilla family tree: Inside Shand family history, and how Camilla has links to pop legends

CAMILLA, Duchess of Cornwall has been a member of the Royal Family since 2005. Although she is now part of one of the most famous families in the world, Camilla's own family background features some notable figures - including several pop stars.

married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005, and Camilla subsequently became known as the Duchess of Cornwall. But and Charles met decades before they tied the knot when Camilla was known as Camilla Shand. The Shand family has a fascinating history, with links to several pop stars, politicians and the British Royal Family.

Who are the Shand family?

Camilla Rosemary Shand was born on July 17, 1947, to Major Bruce Shand, a British Army officer and businessman, and his wife Rosalind.

Rosalind was the daughter of Roland Cubitt, the 3rd Baron Ashcombe.

Camilla's family has long links to the British upper classes and the Royal Family.

Camilla's great-grandmother, Alice Keppel, was a mistress of King Edward VII, the successor of Queen Victoria.

Camilla is the eldest of her parents' three children, and she has a younger sister named Annabel Elliot, whose son Ben Elliot is co-chairman of the Conservative Party.

Camilla also had a younger brother, Mark Shand, who died in 2014.

According to the Daily Mail, Camilla has some familial links to pop legends Madonna and Celine Dion.

Both Camilla and Madonna can trace their ancestry back to the 17th French-Canadians Madeleine Ernard and Zacharie Cloutier, making them 10th cousins.

This same connection also links Camilla to Celine Dion, making the pair 10th cousins.

Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber is also thought to be a far relation of Camilla's, as both share Celine Dion as a distant cousin.

Camilla is also distantly related to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as Camilla is the daughter of a ninth cousin of Mr Trudeau.

When did Camilla marry her first husband?

Camilla met her future husband Andrew Parker Bowles in the 1960s, and they tied the knot in 1973.

Several members of the Royal Family attended the society wedding, including the Queen Mother, Princess Anne and the Queen's sister Princess Margaret.

The Parker Bowles' had two children, Thomas and Laura, before they eventually divorced in 1995.

Andrew Parker Bowles subsequently married his second wife, Rosemary Pitman.

When did Camilla marry Prince Charles?

In the fallout of his divorce from Princess Diana in 1996, Prince Charles' relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles was met with disapproval by much of the public.

The couple were in a relationship for several years before they finally married in 2005.

Charles and Camilla wed at the Windsor Guildhall in a civil ceremony.

Out of respect for Charles' late first wife Diana, Camilla does not use the Princess of Wales title publicly.
