Bruce McGill: Age and early life

Bruce McGill was born on July 11, 1950, in San Antonio Texas. He is the son of Woodrow Wilson McGill, a real estate and insurance agent and Adriel Rose (née Jacobs), an artist. He has Irish, English, and distant French ancestry on the side of his father, and Jewish Ashkenazi ancestry on the side of his mother. Brice has a half-sister named Pamela and a brother named David.

He is related to former Texas Senator A. R. Babe Schwartz.

Bruce McGill attended Wilshire Elementary School and later went to Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio. After that, he bagged a degree in drama from The University of Texas at Austin, United States.

Bruce McGill: Career

Bruce McGill began his acting career when in 1977 when he appeared in the film “Handle with Care” in a minor role. A year later, he portrayed the character of role Daniel Simpson “D-Day” in the 1978 comedy classic “National Lampoon’s Animal House” where he played the William Tell Overture by drumming his fingers on his windpipe.

He made his television debut in the television series “Delta House” which was a spinoff of the “National Lampoon’s Animal House”. His other television guest appearances were in “Quantum Leap” where he played the character of Weird Ernie. He landed a role in the TV series “Babylon 5” after he was called in by mistake (casting wanted Everett McGill), but the producers were so impressed that they gave him the part.

When he became good friends with director Michael Mann, he appeared in three of his films firstly “The Insider”, “Ali” and “Collateral”. He appeared in “Miami Vice” another Michael Mann production. Bruce was also in “Star Trek: Voyager” as Captain Braxton in the episode Relativity.

He played Willard Cates in the short-lived series “Wolf Lake”. Bruce McGill portrayed the character of veteran Boston Police Homicide Detective Vince Korsak on the TNT television crime drama, Rizzoli & Isles. The character of Korsak is the mentor and friend of Detective Jane Rizzoli, portrayed by Angie Harmon. Korsak saved Rizzoli’s life from a serial killer, Charles Hoyt. Korsak shot Hoyt’s partner just before Hoyt was about to kill Rizzoli with a knife. He has played the role of a friend to a lead character mostly in his career.

Bruce McGill also had a recurring voice role on “The Cleveland Show” as Lloyd Waterman, the homosexual owner of Waterman Cable, where Cleveland Brown is employed as a cable installer.  He has played the role of CIA Director George Tenet in Oliver Stone’s film “W” and he was cast as Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln”. He was also the narrator on Fox’s series “Scandalous” in 2018

In the 2016 US Election, Bruce McGill narrated several commercials for Donald Trump during his campaign. In 2019, he won the Best Actor Award at the Pasadena International Film Festival for his role in “Waiting Game”. He is still active in the industry.

In December 2021, Movieweb reported a biopic on Charley Pride, titled “American Pride” to be produced by Craig Brewer, and Third Coast Content with a  screenplay by Dianne Houston (“Empire”, “Surviving Compton”, “When We Rise”, “Tuesday Morning Ride)”. Brewer will direct and produce. Dennis Quaid plays Pride in a cast list that includes Anna Paquin, Adam Baldwin, Bruce McGill, Ser’Darius Blain, and Cindy Hogan.

In December, “American Underdog”, a biographical sports film about National Football League (NFL) quarterback Kurt Warner hit the cinema. Bruce McGill plays Jim Foster, the founder of the AFL and former NFL and USFL executive, who in American Underdog offers Kurt Warner the quarterback position for the Iowa Barnstormer.
