To Walk the Promenade is to Walk Back in Time..
You get to see a wonderful view of lower Manhattan. With the new skyline developing and the river traffic very busy with transit ferries a buss. Must admit we do miss the old view of the original World Trade Center.
Now below you will see the old Port Authority Pier area being developed into Park and Recreation area with sport included. Even a walk below will allow you to walk a Mall along the waterfront.
But at night what a wonderful keepsake picture.
Go to the far end and enjoy the DUMBO area of Brooklyn Bridge.

This is a real neighborhood park, A relaxing place for Brooklynites to enjoy some air and sun. It is cantilevered out over the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, but unless you look straight down, you won't see it. Instead there is a beautiful park below, and one of the best views of Lower Manhattan you will find.
If you walk all the way to the northern end (turn right from the street entrances), you can easily reach a walking bridge that will take you down to the waterfreont park along Columbia Heights, just above Vine Street.
If you stay on Columbia Heights, you'll be at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, where there are some more really spectacular views, and access to another park on the other side of the bridge.
There are restaurants along Montague St., which leads down to the Promenade from the subway, where you can pick up some food to enjoy with the view. There are also some nice places to eat down under the the bridge, and the area between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
Interesting old neighborhood with a LOT of history, and some very nice modernizations.

All true New Yorker's know about Brooklyn Heights Promenade. As Brooklyn has become a much more prominent destination for tourists, this is a must see. It's free to the public with expansive space accommodated by a spectacular view of lower Manhattan. Photography enthusiast will have a hard time trying to leave once they see unobtrusive open view with plenty of room to roam around with a tripod.

This long promenade hugs the Brooklyn shore of the East River. When the weather is not too hot or cold, it is a world-class stroll. You will see everything from lower Manhattan right in your face up to midtown. You will see, from lower to midtown, the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg and Queensboro Bridges in a row. One of the great viewpoints in the USA, and even worldwide.

Great backdrop for pictures. In the winter it can be a bit windy. Lots of food close by. Parking can be a bear. Great place to spend a few hours walking (assuming it's nice weather). May be nice and breezy in the summer - it is right on water.

Great view and lovely environment. We have stayed in a nearby house for two weeks, and visited the promenade almost every hour in different days. It was all superb in different weather and light conditions… Don’t miss the opportunity to see Manhattan from this side…

Best spot to view the glorious sunset over lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. A serene place without tourist crowds, bicyclists or pot smokers. Ideal for couples, families with kids and pets. If you are quiet and respectful to local residents, please come back often.

One of the best views of New York City. View of The Statue of Liberty, Verazano Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, and Lower Manhattan. Absolutely breathtaking at night time. Highly recommended. Take the 2 or 3 train to Clark Street. Walk to the right once you get out of the train station and you'll walk right to it.

You can come here solo, with your friend or girl-friend or may be as a newly-wed couple like most of them do it on the same day they get married.
You can come here in a lot of ways and in a lot of moods. What you get at the end is the the most gloriously memorable moments that you can never forget in your life. It is a picture of not only Manhattan but the utmost eternally iconic view in all of New York City.
It is a view that would make you feel you are in a dream that you would never wake up from or in a gloriously made Hollywood movie.
This place has all the things that will promise you that you will never forget it as it will be deeply pressed between the lines and pages of your mind eternally forced by a wonderfully indescribable feeling which you could never experience in any other time or at any other place in your life !

Hi. Is this a safe area? And what’s the best way to get here? First timer from the UK. Hoping to visit the Brooklyn bridge so is this within walking distance?

Hello - can you advise please on the best mode of transfer from Newark International Airport to your hotel.
Thank you

Hello there!!
You're posting on a wrong section
This is about the Promenade at Brooklyn Heights that overlooks Brooklyn Bridge :)
Maybe your hotel has a similar name but it's not this one here
As a recent traveler to NYC I have the following tips
Taxis are fast and door to door but quite expensive
I took a 60$ fixed rate one from JFK to Manhattan but no idea about Newark.
Must be cheaper and faster anyway, i Imagine around 40$
Shuttles are at decent prices but you may have to wait up to 45 minutes to get one
Metro is CHEAP but you'll have to carry your luggage up and down the stations (imagine something similar to the London Tube BUT and add more stairs and people)
I found this similar to your question topic:
tripadvisor. com/ShowTopic-g60827-i617-k1828630-Newark_Airport_to_Brooklyn-Brooklyn_New_York.html
Hope I helped !!
Have a great time anyway
Greetings from Athens,Greece
