      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A marriage of genuine characters, gross out gags, and pathos, Bridesmaids is a female-driven comedy that refuses to be boxed in as Kristen Wiig emerges as a real star.

Cameron C Actually really quite funny. I hate the guy in the opening scene so props to him. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Ciaran S Another chick flick that's actually really great....astonishing even. Bridesmaids is definitely a must-watch film for anyone who's into great jokes, sex, great humor & some good laughs. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Luna B Una película con chistes tontos y desagradables. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD a while ago and it was horrible. The goings on in the wedding shop were disgusting, and it's difficult to imagine how anyone would think it was funny or entertaining. An exhibition of gross bad taste is what I thought, and I expect much more from a movie than that. Definately not recommended. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Jeff M I don't think any film of the 2010s made me laugh as loud or as often as this one, even when the humor got a bit juvenile and crude - usually I don't respond to that stuff. It is funnier than all of the HANGOVER movies put together, and not only do I think this should become considered a classic comedy in the decades to come, but it should also more importantly be heralded as the moment Kristen Wiig truly became an important comedic actress of the era. This is a star-is-born performance - evoking thoughts of Lucy, Carol Burnett and Goldie Hawn. She is smashingly good and surrounded by a great troop of brilliantly funny actresses. Rose Byrne is such a surprisingly funny presence in film, and I would consider her performance in SPY one of the great comic performances of its decade. This is a comedy I look forward to revisiting over and over again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review S R 1001 movies to see before you die (Added 2012; Removed 2014). Another lost Flixster rating. I remember it to be so raunchy that it was hard to enjoy. It's a shame too about the language since it could have been a classic. Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Sure, it neatly avoids a lot of the fluff found in many chick flicks and replaces it with crass shenanigans, but it adds touching moments when they're needed most, providing for a smart, less clichéd comedy. Rated: B Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Through a combination of smart performances and scurrilous gags Bridesmaids yanks the buddy comedy from the hands of its traditional owners. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2015 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) The big, brash laughs are coupled with a smart insight into women's friendships. Rated: 4/5 Jun 30, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Every lady who has ever been a bride, a bridesmaid, or a maid of honor should see this. You will either laugh at the moments that remind of your own wedding party or laugh thankfully that none of these characters were anyone of you or someone else. Rated: 4/5 Feb 18, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie doesn’t treat its female characters as exceptions to the absurd comedic rule that women aren’t funny, but for moviegoers devoted to that archaic idea, it will certainly prove them wrong. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 7, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Unforgivable two hours and a half. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 9, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
