Lubbock's Buckner Children and Family Services will soon list its Brentwood Avenue campus up for sale, but will continue services, the nonprofit announced Friday.

The Brentwood campus is one of two in Lubbock, the other one being at South Loop 289. Operations will move to the South Loop campus while the organization looks for new offices to lease.

Buckner discussed the decision for more than a year before making the announcement. They decided to do this for several reasons, mainly due to increasing maintenance costs at the building, which they have used since 1967.

"The ongoing and increasing costs of maintaining the Brentwood campus are hampering our ability to serve more children through our programs," said Patricia Acosta, director of administration and operations. "Our plans are to sell the property and relocate the team to leased space that better fits our needs and helps us be better stewards of our resources."

Buckner Foster Care and Adoption and the Buckner FYi Center, which were in the Brentwood campus, will relocate in the second half of 2023. The changes will not impact the Buckner Family Hope Center or Buckner Family Pathways.

"We are committed to serving vulnerable children and families in Lubbock, and the sale of one of our campuses will allow us to improve efficiency and enhance our financial stewardship," Acosta said.
