Harvey Barnes' goal was his ninth of the season

Leicester City gained a crucial point and ended their five-match losing run as Harvey Barnes netted a second-half equaliser at high-flying Brentford in the Premier League.

Barnes was sent through on goal by James Maddison shortly after half-time, dinking the ball over Brentford keeper David Raya.

Earlier, Mathias Jensen's deflected shot had put Brentford ahead in the 32nd minute at the Gtech Community Stadium.

In the closing stages, Brentford substitute Shandon Baptiste was sent off for a second bookable offence, catching Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Leicester dropped to 17th in the Premier League table after relegation rivals Leeds United thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-2.

Brentford missed out on a chance to break into the top six and remain eighth.

Barnes stops the rot for Leicester

Barnes returned to Leicester's starting line-up having been benched in last Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The England midfielder, like the rest of his Leicester team-mates, looked second-best in the first half, but made no mistake finishing the Foxes' first clear-cut opportunity in the 52nd minute.

And after their leveller the visitors grew into the game, with Timothy Castagne and Harry Souttar having efforts blocked.

There are still areas of concern for Brendan Rodgers' side, who remain in the thick of a relegation battle.

Leicester are one of just three sides across Europe's top five leagues not to have kept a clean sheet since club football resumed after last winter's World Cup.

Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen made his Premier League debut, replacing regular number one Danny Ward, but was unable to keep out Jensen's strike which deflected off both Ricardo Pereira and Dewsbury-Hall.

Brentford fail to finish Foxes off in first half

Brentford should have had the game won in the first half.

They deservedly went ahead through Jensen's fourth goal in his last five home games for the Bees.

Earlier, Bryan Mbeumo had seen his close-range header fly just wide and both the winger and fellow forward Ivan Toney, recently called up to the England squad, had a flurry of efforts blocked.

In the second half, Thomas Frank's side struggled to break down their opponents and it was Leicester who looked the likelier to find a winner.

Midfielder Shandon Baptiste came on in the 75th minute but had a late cameo to forget, collecting two yellow cards in three minutes as Brentford were made to play the last five minutes of injury time with 10 men.

Brentford's next game after the international break is against Brighton on Saturday 1 April, while Leicester City play Crystal Palace on the same day.

    Leicester can stay up if Rodgers chooses the right players. They have the talent. But, Ward is prone to costly mistakes and my heart sinks when I see Amartey starting or Soumare coming on. Both lack effective forward play and are shaky. Soumare often fails to hustle back - he should be traded. At their salaries, with one game/week there is no excuse for lack of 100% effort from any player.

      On the button Randy. The problem is that Rodgers doesn't pick the right players. Amartey and Ward are disasters waiting to happen and should never see the light of a first team start again. Rodgers doesn't care any more. It is clear he wants to leave a sinking ship like all rats.

    Have to compliment the Brentford fans. Unlike at Arsenal and Spurs where the fans expect to win EVERY decision and hound the ref if doesn't happen, Brentford had fair-minded and knowledgeable fans.

    Good game of two distinct halves and Leicester unlucky not to have grabbed all 3-points today with that attacking display.

    Good point just hope they can pick up enough points it was good that he finally dropped Ward and put Iversen in about time but it would be better if he played Soyuncu rather Amartey he is too shaky in defence and could cost the team dearly,

    Bees should have had it won by half time. Poor second half from us. Could easily have lost. Subs weakened us a lot today. Oh well- another point. 42 already. 46 in the whole of last season. You Bees!

    I Can't believe Brendan still has a job, whilst Viera gets the sack for losing 12 matches, but leics have lost 17.

    This is the type of game and result we´ve been lacking - a poor game in which we battle and get a point. About time Brendan.
    We looked quite good when we were able to get it on the deck and play around them, as in the (excellent) goal.

      Rodgers wanted the sack (humongous payoff) before the season is started, he still wants his payoff. There’s no money coming into the club and won’t be any time soon. The players want out or are garbage. Wake up . Our club is rotten to the core and is absolutely certainly going down. For Christ’s sake wake up - it’s so much deeper than what you see on the pitch.

    Also a disappointed Bees fan but Leicester deserved a point. We just need a little bit more quality coming out of back and transitioning through midfield. 6/10 today though effort and teamwork 10/10 as usual.
    Not allowed to print opinion of Maddison shared by the West stand.

      He's cost us a lot of goals this season, that most other premier League keepers would have saved.

      And you are correct - this was obvious since first 2-3 games of the season but Brendan stayed loyal to Danny. Hopefully those dropped points dont come back to haunt us at end of season?

    As a Bees fan, abit disappointed but will settle for a point. Leicester are fighting hard to stay up, also a commendable performance by Southampton against Tottenham. The lower half teams seem to give the top half of the table teams a hard fight.

    As a Bees fan, it was a frustrating game. Short spells that were very good and then longer spells that were disjointed. Not catastrophic for a push for European football, though definitely a dent. Thought Rico Henry had a great game. Two-week break to watch our players do well for their national teams - especially Ivan!|
