Women’s Basketball Adds Five to Next Year’s Roster

Five true freshmen will join the Eagles in the fall as part of Joddie Gleason’s first official recruiting class

Five future Eastern Washington University women's basketball players will join the squad in the fall of 2022 as part of head coach Joddie Gleason's first official recruiting class and the November early signing period.

Ella Gallatin (Snohomish, Wash.), Camille Jentzsch (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Jayden McNeal (Boise, Idaho), Breeje Shuler (New Zealand) and Cori Wilcox (Lake Stevens, Wash) will all join the Eagles as true freshmen.
"We are thrilled to bring in five talented 2022 signees to the Eastern Washington family who will help us move the program forward. In this recruiting class it was imperative that we bring in size and we feel like that was achieved at every position," said Gleason. "Recruiting in the Pacific Northwest was a priority for us, and our staff did an outstanding job in a short amount of time to build relationships with these prospects and their families and to secure four marquee players from the region. All five of these signees hail from winning programs and are great people who will represent Eagle Nation well. They embody what we want our program to represent on the court, in the classroom and in the Eagle community."

Ella Gallatin | 5-10 | Guard | Snohomish, Wash. | Snohomish HS | Buckey's Elite

Ella Gallatin is an in-state product from Snohomish, Wash., where she has earned four letters in both basketball and track plus one in equestrian at Snohomish High School. Gallatin's club team is the Buckey's Elite.
Gallatin helped guide the Snohomish Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the 2019 3A WIAA State Championships and earned an All-WESCO Honorable Mention nod in the process. In 2020, Gallatin was named first team All-WESCO, first team All-Area and was also named the student of the quarter at Snohomish High School.

The 2021 season saw Gallatin be named first team All-Area for the second-straight year, and she was also a two-time Herald Athlete of the Week. She averages 20.2 points, nine rebounds, 1.2 steals and two assists per game.

Born on Oct. 22, Gallatin is the daughter of AndiKay and Chad Gallatin. Her high school coach is Ken Roberts. She intends on majoring in chemistry (pre-veterinary medicine) at Eastern Washington with aspirations of becoming a veterinarian or equine massage therapist.

Gleason on Gallatin: "Ella is an athletic combo guard who has the ability to use her length to force turnovers, deflect passes and turn defense into offense. She is a guard who loves to rebound, which is something we love to see in the Eagle program. Ella will fit into the Cheney community and EWU culture very well and we expect her to be ready to compete in the Big Sky."

Camille Jentzsch | 6-4 | Center | Lake Stevens, Wash. | Lake Stevens HS | Northwest Blazers

Camille Jentzsch is another in-state product who hails from Lake Stevens, Wash., where she has earned three letters in basketball at Lake Stevens High School. Jentzsch plays the Northwest Blazers club team, and the squad has competed in both the adidas and Under Armour Nationals, finishing second and third, respectively.

Jentzsch was named first team All-WESCO as a sophomore and junior and currently averages 15 points and eight rebounds per game.

Born on Feb. 19, Jentzsch is the daughter of Elizabeth and John Jentzsch. Her high school coach is Randy Edens. She plans on majoring in chemistry at EWU and wants to become an anesthesiologist.

Gleason on Jentzsch: "Cam is an extremely skilled and mobile center with a soft shooting touch and the ability to score in the paint as well as step out and shoot from the perimeter. Her length will immediately help us in our interior game at both ends of the court as she is able to change shots and protect the rim for us while also providing a scoring punch. Eagle fans will love the Lake Stevens duo."

Jayden McNeal | 6-1 | Small Forward | Boise, Idaho | Borah HS | Tree of Hope

Jayden McNeal comes to Eastern Washington from Boise, Idaho where she attends Borah High School. McNeal has earned four letters in basketball, and after being named Honorable Mention SIC in 2019, she was named first team all-state as a junior in 2020. McNeal also plays club for Tree of Hope.

McNeal knows how to win, as she has led the Lions to a SIC District Championship and has played in the Nike Invitational Tournament of Champions. She currently averages 18 points, six rebounds and two assists per game.

Born on June 16, McNeal is the daughter of Ashley and Donell McNeal. She is coached by George Rodriguez at Borah High School. At Eastern, McNeal plans on majoring in communications with aspirations of becoming a speech pathologist.

Gleason on McNeal: "Jayden has a high motor who will get a rebound at one end, sprint the lane, and receive the ball in transition to score it. She has the ability to convert off the bounce with an aggressive attacking move and can also be crafty and play with finesse inside. She has a nose for the ball whether it's coming off the glass or loose on the floor. She will be exciting for Eagle fans to follow."

Breeje Schuler | 5-10 | Shooting Guard | Te Aroha, New Zealand | St. Peter's Cambridge HS | Waikato Wizards

Breeje Schuler will join the Eagles all the way from Te Aroha, New Zealand. She attends St. Peter's Cambridge High School and plays club for the Waikato Wizards. In addition to basketball, Schuler also plays volleyball and netball.

Schuler will bring plenty of international experience to Cheney. In 2021, she was named to the New Zealand 19U National MVP. She played on the N.Z. U17 national's tournament team and national team in 2020, and on the U16 national team in 2018. She has won many championships for those squads as well, winning the U15 and U19 national championships, in addition to two with the U17 team. She currently averages 20 points and eight rebounds per game.

Born on Nov. 15, Schuler is the daughter of Vivian and Anthony Schuler. Her sister, Dejaan Schuler is a sophomore guard at Casper College in Wyoming. She plans on majoring in biology and wants to play professional basketball before finding a career working outdoors in New Zealand.

Gleason on Schuler: "Breeje is a highly competitive and very skilled guard who has played at the highest levels in New Zealand. Her ability to create shots for herself and others will be an asset to the program immediately. She provides size and perimeter scoring to this class which were two factors we were looking for in the shooting guard spot. We expect Breeje to impact the program instantly."

Cori Wilcox | 6-2 | Power Forward | Lake Stevens, WA | Lake Stevens HS | FBC Northwest Alliance

Cori Wilcox hails from Lake Stevens, Wash., where she attends Lake Stevens High School and plays club for FBC Northwest Alliance. Wilcox has earned four letters in basketball.

She was named second team All-WESCO in 2019, honorable mention in 2020, and earned a spot on the All-WESCO first team in 2021. With her club team, she won the 2020 adidas National Championship.
Currently, Wilcox averages 14 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and three assists per game.

Born on Feb. 7, Wilcox is the daughter of Andrea and Jack Wilcox. Her high school coach is Randy Edens and she plans on majoring in pre-med at Eastern Washington.

Gleason on Wilcox: "Cori is a strong and aggressive rebounder who will provide necessary toughness and grit to the program. She does not back down and recognizes the importance of defense and rebounding as an integral component to winning. She is a crafty interior player who seals well and finds a way to get the job done. Cori will help us immediately at the post."
