Denver Broncos release place kicker Brandon McManus after 9 seasons with team

There are now no more Denver Broncos still on the team from their Super Bowl 50 triumph.

The last remaining player from the squad that toppled the Carolina Panthers following the 2015, place kicker Brandon McManus, was released Tuesday with a post-June 1 designation.

"Brandon has been a key player and presence with the Broncos for nearly a decade, making outstanding contributions to our team and community," general manage George Paton said Tuesday in a statement posted on Denver's Twitter account. "Developing into one of the NFL’s most productive kickers, Brandon made so many clutch kicks for this franchise over the years as a Super Bowl champion and team captain. He will always hold a special place in Denver Broncos history."

In a message posted to his Twitter account, McManus said: "The @Broncos have informed me I’ve been released. More to come in the following days."

McManus, 31, was one of Denver's team captains and ranks second on the franchise all-time scoring list with 946 points, behind long-time place kicker Jason Elam (1,786). He is also Denver's second most accurate place kicker in history, having converted 233-of-284 regular season and postseason attempts for an 82% rate. That trails only Matt Prater, who converted field goals at an 82.9% rate.

He has played nine seasons in the NFL, all of them coming in Denver. He was instrumental during the Broncos' march to the Super Bowl. During that year's postseason, McManus converted all 10 of his field goal attempts, setting a Broncos record for most converted attempts in a single postseason. That mark ranks third all-time behind Evan McPherson and Adam Vinatieri, both of whom converted 14.

Last season, however, McManus' numbers dipped, as he converted 28-of-36 field goals, seeing his conversion rate drop to the second-lowest mark (77.8%) of his career and the first time since 2017 that his percentage fell below 80%.

Denver does not currently have a place kicker on its roster.
