Acting career
Johnson was a professional rodeo cowboy before getting his start in commercials, portraying the iconic Marlboro Man as well as appearing in ads for Busch and Calvin Klein. “Always” was one of Johnson’s earliest film roles; he played pilot Ted Baker, love interest of Holly Hunter’s character. He starred as Lt. Jake Grafton in “Flight of the Intruder” and played the title character in the TV miniseries “Ned Blessing: The Story of My Life and Times.” Johnson starred as Rayford Steele in the “Left Behind” film series. On TV, he had recurring roles on “Melrose Place” and “CSI,” as well as making appearances on shows including “Dallas,” “A Different World,” and “Veronica’s Closet.” He also starred in the syndicated adventure TV series “Soldier of Fortune, Inc.” and in the miniseries “Rough Riders.”
