Top ways to experience New Orleans Botanical Gardens and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.

The Botanical Gardens are just wonderful in New Orleans. I love it when they have special exhibits but overall its a great place to take friends and family.

Beautifully landscaped gardens, with lots of sculptures, hot houses, a model train that runs on the weekends, and gorgeous old trees. I enjoyed the statues here more than those at the neighboring sculpture garden outside the Art Musuem, but that one is free.

If you wish to pay $6 for visiting my backyard you are on the right trail.
Small neglected territory with minimum flowers and very simple garden houses in.
Not bad orchids collection.
Less than one hour you'll need to see everything and get deepest disillusionment.

I spend about an hour there just rambling through the different paths and gardens. I was so mesmerized by the Lilly pad pond, that I probably took 50 pictures of it. Also, there was a small hummingbird, butterfly garden that I walked through. The conservatory was warm, lush green with tropical plants and plants from the dinosaur age.

First off, it's very inexpensive. Secondly the place is soooooo peaceful, has some absolutely beautiful spots in the gardens. Some parts remind me of a star wars movie. I would not go for the sole reason of going here but if you're at the park, must go.

Enjoyed a great few hours to the Botanical Gardens, NO Art Museum, and the NO Art Museum Sculpture Garden. Just take the streetcar to this not well known area.. Definitely worth a visit. The Botanical garden has a nice conservatory, garden art, and rose garden. Had a nice lunch at the NO Art Museum.. note that the Botanical Gardens is at the north end of the Sculpture Garden, so see half the Sculpture Garden, go out the back entrance and go the Botanical Garden, and then see the remaining half of the Sculpture Garden.

I didn't think these gardens were very impressive, but we coupled our visit with the sculpture garden just across the street, so it was a nice stroll. The entry fee is $6, so that seems cheap enough to walk through. I use a wheelchair, and I was able to get around to most of the areas of the garden.

The most beautiful part of city park is the New Orleans Botanical Garden. Giant prehistoric-looking agaves, the largest chocolate mimosa I've ever seen, and a host of internal and external vignettes make this one of the most economical and rewarding things to do in the crescent city.

Our prime destination when seeking out City Park was the Botatanical Garden. We were correct to find it. The plantings are lovely, the landscaping is beautiful, and the statuary added dimensions and romance and, sometimes, whimsy to the gardens.
Entrance was $6 per person. There are bathrooms. The gift shop is nice with reasonably priced items. It rained heavily while we were there so we had to wait out the rain. Even the resulting puddles did little to detract from the overall ambiance.
Towards the back of the garden there is an area with miniature trains. The trains were not running when we were there, but the construction of the sets were very lifelike.
This would be lovely place for a wedding.
This was an excellent location for spending $6 and an hour or more of precious vacation time.
