Jeff Healey sadly span off this mortal coil in 2008 as a young 41 year old man. However, this legendary performer left a lustrous legacy. In the late 80's and early 90's Healey was on the crest of a wave with a string of accolades including a new deal with Arista, chart glory, a Grammy nomination plus an acting slot alongside the late Patrick Swayze (in the renowned Road House movie). The Canadian star was a major property in his homeland and the neighbouring US which put him on a pop pedestsal. The blind jazz and blues-rock vocalist and his band were at the heoight of their powers in 1989 and a gig at the Paradise Road Club, Boston on 7th April of that year was an FM Broadcast that has now become a sought after live CD.
This fuelled fare is one for the fans of which there are still a significant number; and, for aficionados of traditional playing with an edge look no further. Healey and his associates head on a remarkable ride mixing their tunes with the likes of the classic Bob Dylan anthem All along the Watchtower (which has also been covered by diverse acts of the ilk of Jimi Hendrix through to XTC). The great man may no longer be with us but he bossed on this Boston Broadcast 1989 compact disc. Roadhouse Blues, it is indeed!

A review of two halves.

From a sound quality point of view I would say this is one for the devotees. It professes to be from a radio transmission although I would be surprised if it is from the studio tapes. To me it sounds like a home recording since the radio signal and strength vary at time creating a rather 'mushy' sound, particularly the drums, so overall it is OK in places but rough in others. Fortunately, Jeff's guitar does shine through for most of time.

The performance however, is another matter. Jeff Healey and the band are in top gear and definitely firing on all cylinders.

So a bit of mixed bag. Very variable audio quality but excellent performance. Jeff's fans who haven't heard it will like it and accept the sub par sound quality but if you are new to Jeff Healey look elsewhere such as 'Heal My Soul' or particularly 'Live at Grossmans'.
