I just heard four of them in a row, the fourth being "I Take It Back".

I dunno. I always sorta tuned her songs out when they came over the radio airwaves.

When attacked by four in a row just now.... there's a disturbing, turquoise red psychedelic visual/aural....weirdness.

I envision a Sandy Posey/Shangri-las concert... where all these songs are being played super fast and the audience of trucker/biker/intellectuals are scream-singing along.

Very very strange records. I mean that in a good way.....I think :)

Prior to "Shattered" above, which I heard for the first time today, I had only heard this one..."Born A Woman" from circa 1966...really a downbeat song:

I was not consciously aware of her existence until today, tho it's just possible one or another of her singles have snuck up on me on one of the more extraordinary oldies stations or feeds. But I'm very pleased to make her acquaintance, to be sure. Nifty stuff.

I like Born a Woman and Single Girl.

Back about 1969, my family were on vacation at a site near Lake Huron. One day we went into Collingwood (I think it was) for dinner at a restaurant, and the PA was playing a Sandy Posey LP over and over. It was only about 25 minutes long, so it must have repeated three or four times. My 14-year-old self recognized the two hits, and the rest of it was pleasant enough.

Haha....There's something very twilight-zoney about a Sandy Posey album playing over & over in a restaurant!

This one is just really out there imo....written by the Classics IV guys no less....

This is good...me like! Sounds like it was recorded at the American studios in Memphis, or maybe the Fame studio.

There used to be an independent (non-Clear Channel) oldies station around where I live, and they'd slip in her singles here and there. Her records had this ghostly feel to them; very distinctive.

  14. Nick Lowe did an incredible cover of "Born A Woman". It's where/how I first heard of her.

Known for the kind of song that would be frowned on by many today. I like them. And I also like You Don't Own Me. Part of the rich tapestry of life.

I liked the handful of singles I heard in the 60s. Single Girl, Born A Woman and particularly I Take It Back all of which peaked at #12. Guess you had to be there.
