It’s 4/26, which means it’s Alien Day, and to celebrate, we decided to dive deep into the vault and dig through the archive to find as many images from the film as possible. Released in 1979, Alien was directed by Ridley Scott (Prometheus), written by Dan O’Bannon (The Return of the Living Dead) and Ronald Shusett (Dead & Buried). The stacked cast includes Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton, Ian Holm, Veronica Cartwright, John Hurt, Tom Skerritt, Bolaji Badejo (the creature actor in the Xenomorph suit), and Sigourney Weaver as the iconic Ellen Ripley, who has gone on to become one of the most celebrated final girls in horror.

This horror classic was featured in the first issue of FANGORIA; Alien has since gone on to spawn multiple sequels, video games, novels, comic books, an upcoming new Alien movie by Fede Álvarez (Alien: Romulus), and a television series by Noah Hawley. There doesn’t seem to be an end to the Alien franchise, and for that, we are grateful.

We found some Alien photographs in the archives, including behind-the-scenes photos, promotional shots, concept art, and press stills. Sorry, no Jonesy.

“This is Ellen Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off.”
