Reviews
- Top notch 70s southern country/soul roots rock from ex-Derek & the Dominoes/Delaney & Bonnie sideman w/ excellent songwriting & all-star backing musos from Cream, Beatles, Rollings Stones, Traffic, etc.
Whitlock has had a very impressive musical career with a soulful voice soaked in gospel, R&B, and blues and accomplished keyboard skills, by the time he was a teenager he was playing on many of the sessions at the legendary Stax Studios and was in fact the first white artist signed to Stax Records.
There’s a reason they call this "classic" rock. - Edited 6 months agoIt's a great record, musically, but these True Sound pressings are muddy and lifeless. High end seems rolled off about, say, 13 kHz; definitely a loss of high frequency. The stereo separation seems poor as well.
I can't imagine the Monarchs are much better given their poor stamper de-horning practices. Probably the best bet for sonic quality is the reissue vinyl or the CD (gasp!) that compiles both of the Dunhill albums.
