Bobby Lee Mathis, 87, of Dalton, left this earth Friday, August 26, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hertis Mathis and Novella Ann Mathis, sisters Wanda Brown and Marcelle Burkeen, son Dale Mathis and granddaughter Jerrica Mathis.
Bobby was born in the Blue Ridge mountain area. He was a smart, successful, self-made businessman. Bobby was the Owner of Bobby's Drive-In which was a popular hangout in the 1950's. Through the years he owned several other restaurants and businesses including Canteen Catering Service (which sold meals to carpet industry employees during their breaks), Souther's Amusement, Bobby's Carpets, and eventually successfully invested in Commercial real estate.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-two (62) years Janette, children, Robin Hurney (fiancé, Melvin Silvers), Jerry Mathis (Pat), Terry Mathis (Sandra), Tammy Grant and Susan Mathis Castle (Rich). He loved his ten (10) grandchildren and one (1) great-grandchild.
Bobby is also survived by his brother and best friend Billy Mathis (Ann) Randall Mathis (Carole), sisters Betty Jensen (Doug) Carol Gossett (Boyd), Doris Kedrow, Sandra Murie (Bob), Martha Minneker, Kay Goodwin, many nieces and nephews and in-laws and friends.
Bobby was laid to Rest in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Bobby's memory may be made to the Northwest Georgia Humane Society (1210 Veterans Drive, Dalton, GA 30721).

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Orders placed in:
January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
