As Oklahoma’s first game of the 2021 season draws ever closer, OUInsider counts down the final 99 days to the opener by examining each number’s statistical and historical significance in Sooner lore, from 99 all the way down to 0. The countdown arrives at 90 with a look at the most one-sided rivalry series in college football.

This one is pretty self-explanatory.

90 wins over the program that Sooner Nation has affectionately labeled with such monikers as “little brother,” “that school up north,” and “Okie Lite.”

Over the course of the Bedlam rivalry series on the gridiron, Oklahoma has absolutely dominated their in-state foes from Stillwater. The Sooners’ 75-0 victory over what was then Oklahoma A&M in November 1904 set the tone from the get-go. In the 117 years since, the two programs have met 115 times. Seven contests have culminated in ties. The Cowboys have emerged victorious in 18 games (Oklahoma won its 18th game of the series in 1928). The other 90 have resulted in Sooner victories, usually lopsided ones.

Oklahoma State didn’t score a point in the Bedlam Series until the ninth game of the rivalry, getting outscored 240-0 over the first eight tilts. From 1967 to 1994, the Pokes won exactly one game against the Sooners, a 31-24 triumph in 1976. OSU’s most successful run in the series came from 1995 to 2002, which largely coincided with Oklahoma’s low point as a program. Over that span of time, the Cowboys earned victories in five of eight Bedlam games. However, since 2003, they’ve beaten Oklahoma just twice. Those victories came in 2011, when OSU caught lightning in a bottle with arguably their best team in school history, and the infamous Tyreek Hill Game in 2014.

Today, there is little doubt that OU will own the series for years and decades to come, as the Sooners continue to climb ever higher under Lincoln Riley while the Pokes have seemingly plateaued under Mike Gundy. Oklahoma is currently riding a six-game winning streak in the series dating back to 2015, and is heavily favored to claim the Big 12 championship and return to the College Football Playoff in 2021. For a comprehensive dive into the Sooners’ utter dominance of Bedlam, here’s an inspiring and enlightening Twitter thread from the legendary Blinkin Riley, one that contextualizes everything inasmuch as it is possible.
