Hope it gets better reviews than his other “Self Portrait.”
The biggest-ever retrospective of Bob Dylan’s visual art on US soil will open in Florida this fall.
The show, titled “Bob Dylan: Retrospectrum,” at Miami’s Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, opens on November 30 and spans six decades of the 79-year-old’s drawing, painting and sculpture.
A multi-day symposium will also kick off the show at Florida International University, where the Frost Museum is based, exploring the Nobel Prize winner’s expansive career and cultural influence.
“Bob Dylan: Retropectrum” premiered in Shanghai in 2019, and the Florida version — which coincides with Miami’s Art Week and runs until April 2022 — is an only slightly smaller version, with around 120 artworks.
It was the most-visited exhibition in Shanghai that year and the largest-ever collection of Dylan’s visual art worldwide.
Shai Baitel, the artistic director of the Modern Art Museum (MAM) Shanghai, said, “Bob Dylan is a seminal artist, rightly recognized as one of the defining figures of popular culture for more than half a century.
“We saw the profound impact and reach of Dylan’s work in Shanghai, where hundreds of thousands came to experience and engage with his remarkable creativity, unique observations and social commentary.”
It was not immediately clear if Dylan himself will be involved in assembling or opening the show.
