High stakes and bawdy plots make Blood & Oil's plain premise and characters tolerable.

Keith Uhlich Hollywood Reporter Soap operatic machinations and narrative plausibility need not necessarily be bedfellows. But there's little in Blood & Oil that compels in the way of the best trash TV. May 19, 2020 Full Review Rob Sheffield Rolling Stone Don Johnson never fades away - and who would ever want him to? He's a North Dakota oil tycoon in this clever old-school soap - a salty wildcatter who still walks and talks like a cowboy, especially when he's kicking the ass of his spoiled brat of a son. Sep 29, 2015 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail Blood & Oil is a hopeless soap. Sep 28, 2015 Full Review Amanda Coyne Tell-Tale TV Unnecessary exposition and sometimes over-the-top acting aside, that cliffhanger seals the deal. I cannot wait until next week's episode. Rated: 3.5/5 May 19, 2020 Full Review Terri Schwartz IGN Movies Blood & Oil wants to follow in the soap opera roots of Dallas, but it's so self-serious that its pilot is too easy to laugh at and not with. Rated: 3.5/10 May 19, 2020 Full Review Tommy Cook Collider There's something here though - between Johnson's magnetic charms, the rich location and the darker network aesthetics - it all suggest the potential for a show far greater than its pilot. Audience Member I loved this show and was sad to see it is done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It wasn't the best show, and probably a little too soapy for most, but at least they got a chance to tie everything up in the last episode before getting cancelled. Half a star because Don Johnson is always awesome to see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member How can such a large scale production produce such garbage? Blood and Oil actually had a promising premise that worked well in the first few episodes but quickly devolved into unbearable soap opera. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Two stars is a generous rating. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show a bad soap opera; in less then a week, a young couple looses it's laundry business, uses a $10,000 credit card to raise $75,000 buys a land lease and turns it into a million dollars, all in the first 37 minutes. Is this the best vehicle Don Johnson could come up with? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member JR Ewing would be so disgusted if he watched this trash Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
