Not a bad B picture at all. I'm a fan of these classic films that clock in under an hour and 15 minutes; they don't drag. Blondell and Cagney are perfect together; this is only the 2nd movie I've seen her in; the other was in the supporting role of the lady dealer "Lady Fingers" in The Cincinnati Kid. It's easy to see why Depression era audiences would have taken to her.

A pleasant yarn about a man and woman who team up as con artists all the while plotting to make each other jealous enough to fall in love with him/her. James Cagney is a lovable tough guy and Joan Blondell is appealing in a role that takes women seriously. Johnny C sez check it out for the acting if not the plot.

Don't miss this pretty good pre-code effort about small timers who dream of hitting the big time by going crooked. Okay, so the story's been done but the chemistry between Cagney and Blondell is unique, steamy and smart, and effortlessly puts over the work. As well, that it's pre-code means that many situations are handled in a pretty mature way considering the times. The patter is quick, witty and contagious. Good stuff, and only months after Cagney's breakout in Public Enemy.
