Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of one 1/2 Hollinger box containing six folders. Within the collection is Black-Foxe's yearbook, The Adjutant, from 1936 and 1937, the school's newspaper, Kaydet, volumes 15, 16, and 18, and a brochure detailing the school. Additionally, there are some promotional items relating to Vanderbilt University.

Historical Note

The Black-Foxe Military Institute was a private, all-male military and boarding school, serving students from kindergarten through twelfth grade, in Los Angeles, California. The school was founded in 1929 by the real estate tycoon Charles E. Toberman and Majors Earle Foxe and Harry Lee Black. The school was founded on the site of the former Urban Military Academy and many celebrities sent their children to Black-Foxe. In 1968 Black-Foxe was forced to shut down after the property's mortgage holder foreclosed.
