A really fun campy movie!

This movie was so much fun to watch. The lead actress was great! It really did crack me up. Also the stoner guy looked like Seth Rogen circa 'Knocked Up' at times.

A silly fun time
DebDeb30005 December 2019
If you're looking for a fun, silly movie that will take you back to the good old days of Troll 2, Leprechaun and Student Bodies, you'll have a good time with this one. The soundtrack and "Brett" alone are with some stars. Gotta respect a flick that definitely doesn't have a budget and has fun with that fact. A good watch for 80s horror fans with a sense of humor.

If You Go Down To The Woods Today

For what appears to be a micro-budget production this movie is a ton of fun. Murder, karate, nature, supernature, eye-gouging, tree-climbing, rednecks, college kids, folklore, sex, nerds, cheerleaders, goths, stoners, troubled pasts, terrifying presents and, best of all, laughs aplenty.

A fun ride

A mystical force hunts a ragtag group of college students. This film keeps its tongue firmly placed in cheek while the bodies pile up. A hell of a fun ride.

A generally unfunny spoof attempt that doesn't have a lot to like
kannibalcorpsegrinder18 November 2021
Enrolling at a new high school, a troubled teen at a downtrodden class sent out into the woods on a field trip learns that the class has accidentally stumbled onto the site of a sacred Indian artifact that's unleashed a swarm of supernatural activity upon them and must try to get out of the area alive.

Overall, this was a fun if troubling genre effort. When this one works, it's due to the wild and outrageous genre sequences here which can be seen coming quite easily but still remain fun nonetheless. The atmosphere of the woods, with the legends surrounding the forest involving the sacred rock and its connection to the tribe in the area, the series of scenes showing the objects coming for them in the woods that don't come off successful but have the idea of something evil going on and the suspense-filled scenes showing the objects in the woods coming to life leading to some fantastic kills loaded with cheesy indie-style gore and over-the-top blood spray. With an energetic tempo and a finale featuring some unexpected outcomes for the heroes, there are some nice positives on display here. There are some drawbacks to be had here. The main issue is that the film, for what's intended to be a comedy, is just painfully unfunny. Portraying clueless, vapid teenage characters obviously played by adults, obnoxious characters that fit into grossly exaggerated stereotypes that are nowhere near natural people or personas, slapstick comedy gags that are incredibly obvious, expected, and seen coming from a mile away, just plain idiotic behavior that was nowhere near acceptable to the time-period this was set in, and a general disinterest in the terror brewing around them as if they're from a separate film entirely are just some of the many issues with the comedy here. Since the film thinks this is all hilarious and relies on it throughout here, there are some rather troubling moments here. On top of that, there are some problems to be had with the pacing of the film which tends to be quite bland for large portions of time. This one takes way too long to get going with the series of extravagant action by the force in the woods that it's way too long to be interesting for some. While there's a rapid-fire pacing to the movie with all the jokes and gags that are a part of the film's first half, after the opening kills very little happens until nearly the hour mark in terms of extravagant killing or activity for the majority of this section. This can lead to an easy period of boredom since very little is happening with the potential to not be quite interested in the comedy on display which all manage to leave this one far below what it could've been.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

Delightful

A fun horror-comedy featuring 80s references, lots of laughs, occasional violence, a killer original soundtrack, an excellent cast and tons of cheese (literally and figuratively). Micro-budget movies are rarely this entertaining.

A fun horror comedy!
Feldman666 December 2019
I'm a sucker for low budget horror movies, and this one is really fun! A comedic riff on 80s horror-comedies, I liked this a lot better than expected. Great cast, and there's a recurring gag involving a character in this that was one of the best gags I've seen in a long time. If you like horror-comedy, check it out.

So much fun!

Warning: Spoilers
In 1989. Street-smart Laquita Johnson is forced into a camping trip with a bunch of ridiculous white students on her first day at a new school. You know what happens when people go into the woods? If the movies on my shelves have anything to say about it, people die.

Of course, the anthropology class at O'Fish Community College is doomed. And unlike all the slashers we watched as kids, this time the final girl gets to be black. And she's up against magic rocks, underwater zombies and the woods themselves.

If you're ready for a satire of slashers that plays smart instead of dumb, this one is ready for you to enjoy. There's not much of a budget, but you know, I think that's a large part of why I found it so charming.

Director Jason Berg hasn't done anything before but I really hope he has another movie in him. Same to his co-writers Heidi Ervin (who also plays Rebecca O'Sunnybrook) and Rachel Ward Heggen (who is Megan). They know the right side of the clever and stupid paradigm, which trust me, is not always so simple.

Sometimes, I think, "This movie looks like it was fun to make. "

This would be one of those movies.

Possibly worst bad bad movie
mchris-359842 December 2019
Obviously low budget, which is not a bad thing, but this entire movie is garbage. Not funny, not scary, and no good gore. Don't waste your time, the good reviews here are from cast members.
