To me this is the definitive YBB Records album even when Illegal Business? or Forever Hustlin' are almost equally as dope this was the first one that I heard and I didn't know shh about bay gangsta rap back then so hearing this started the snowball effect. :)
Not to lessen Ferg's contributions, it's how Khayree's flawless production work fits with Lay's smooth rapping style on this one that makes Black N Dangerous a straight up 5/5 classic. Khayree has always been in the top three of my favorite producers from the yay area and this album is his crown jewel. He has created many different vibes that give each track it's own feel, there are tracks for the swangers and bangers, the hustlers and of course the buddah lovers, still having the album sound coherent. Keeping the beats organic and playing many if not all of the instruments himself he is the true definition of a producer. Young Lay flows effortlessly to all of the beats with lyrics that keep you grinning and the few guest rappers each give out their best.
Too bad all that crazy stuff had to happen to him after the album was released. How many hits can a guy take with him getting first shot in the head, after that stabbed repeatedly, with in the meantime his baby kidnapped and girfriend killed by his psycho ex and now him serving 12 years.
