After attending Bishop Mcdevitt High School for four years, I would say I had an average high school experience. I enjoyed the different school events and I believe I received a decent education while attending. The only part I would say was difficult was feeling prepared for college and trying to figure out the college process alone due to little help.
As an alum of Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, I'm deeply disappointed with my experience. The school lacks diversity, offering a limited worldview. Academic resources were inadequate, hindering preparation for college. Administration often prioritized sports over education, neglecting other extracurriculars. The disciplinary system was inconsistent and unfair. Overall, the school failed to foster a nurturing and inclusive environment, leaving me unprepared for the real world.
Overall, my experience at Bishop McDevitt has been positive. My freshman year was the first year back from Covid, and McD handled the transition very professionally, getting the students back to in-person learning, while still taking necessary precautions and keeping students safe. Almost all of my teachers have been very good at engaging the class and teaching the necessary material; however, I've heard numerous complaints about some of the newer hires. The diversity of the school may not be the best around, but I would assume the school is more diverse than outsiders would expect. The school is incredibly beautiful, with lots of natural lighting, and there has never been a safety issue throughout my time here. The school is Catholic, so some rules are more strict due to being based upon religion (dress codes for school/dances).
My experience at Bishop McDevitt High School was one I will never forget. High School is some of the most crucial times during one's educational career and Bishop McDevitt gives the best education through its incredible academics and wonderful teachers. They have a variety of clubs, many of which I was a part of. They also offer educational support and extracurricular activities that are an incredible experience. I highly encourage anyone who can or wants to attend Bishop McDevitt High School to do it. It is worth it and something you will never forget.
The best part about being enrolled at bishop mcdevitt high school is the education. I feel as though mcdevitt has prepared me for the last four years to do my best at school
At Bishop McDevitt High School, I have had the ability to be a part of a great community with proud alumni. I would say that many of the teachers are not the greatest, which probably has to do with the teaching shortage. I would also like if I was allowed to carry my school supplies in my backpack instead of carry everything in my arms, which is a safety hazard in case someone falls.
My son, Samuel, is currently at senior at Bishop McDevitt. Throughout his four years now of attendance, we love the fact his teachers, coaches, and the administration have been so easily accessible. They encourage parent participation in their children’s educational experience. Bishop McDevitt also has a high standard of education excellence. As a result, Samuel has thus far been accepted into fourteen colleges. We are excited to see where this leads him. Though the cost has been a challenge for us financially, when compared to similar schools in Maryland, our previous residence, McDevitt has proven to be a better option. Not being of the Catholic faith, I would like to see more scholarship opportunities for those in our family’s situation.
For the past four years, Bishop McDevitt High School has given me so many great opportunities. I have grown so much both spiritually and academically. This school keeps God at the center of everything. From starting class or a sporting event with a prayer to having a school wide Mass once a month, our school is very faith based. As for academics, Bishop McDevitt keeps their academic standards very high. Because we are a private, Catholic school, we are held at a higher level and more is expected from us. This gives students a type of incentive to keep their grades up and stay out of trouble. Like everything, there are things that need to be improved. For example, students are sometimes overwhelmed from not understanding material in class. In my opinion, teachers need to keep in mind that the purpose of learning is to understand, not memorize and throw away. However, this can always be improved. Aside from this, Bishop McDevitt is a great school to attend and prepares you very well.
Bishop McDevitt definitely prepared me for a college education. If you take higher level classes such as honors or AP, you should receive an excellent education. The CP classes are a little more rowdy than the honors and are not always taken as seriously. I felt like I was always supported in my academics if I required assistance. I do not feel as if the school valued the art or music departments, as we only have one art teacher, and two music teachers. It seems as if McDevitt really only values the football team and cuts funding from the arts in order to give money to our football team. We do not have many resources for art or band, and I hope to see that change in the coming years.
I wanted to love Bishop McDevitt but found there to be issues within the Administration and faculty. There are many injustices in the school. Everyone is not treated the same at all.
Overall, my years at Bishop McDevitt were good. The academic and social environments were welcoming to new comers from different backgrounds.
The school sets every student up for success. The faculty works to make the environment fun and challenging. Everyone is constantly encouraging all of the students to strive for excellence. Many of the teachers work with their students in order to help them achieve goals and pass their class. The administration also holds certain standards for the students, leading to a well structured and organized environment for the student. The only thing I would say was a little bit of a con would be the favoritism in classes and in sports. This will not change the results in the class (that is all up to the students themselves), but will affect the distance you go on the court, field, track, etc.
When I attended Bishop McDevitt High school it was an overall fun experience. Sure we had to experience COVID at the end of my freshman year and basically all of my sophomore year, but for what it was worth it was pretty enjoyable.
Bishop Mcdevitt High School is a great way to expand your understanding of the Catholic faith. Because of the small student body, there is a strong sense of community within the school. The education is top tier and most, if not all of the teachers here are eager to aid in the understanding of the subjects they are teaching.
Bishop McDevitt High School is an unfailing and unchanging tight-knit community if you would so choose to indulge in it. The environment is welcoming and students are always demonstrating their kind and well rounded characters. Administration are friendly and helpful, and staff are just as pleasant. College readiness is nothing special, but using the right resources which are offered you may go above and beyond. Students are always offered as much help as they need for all different areas such as academically, personally, athletically, and socially. Alumni always convey fond memories unprompted. Individual judgement may be made from here.
Bishop McDevitt is an excellent school. It has a beautiful campus and a friendly staff. The students are pleasant and welcoming. The academics are above average. The teachers push their students to see what they are capable of while helping them grow in understanding the material.
I love attending McD. I feel prepared for college and welcome here. The teachers are excellent and willing to help with the preparation and work hard to make you comfortable with what they teach.
