Former Sheffield United and LA Galaxy striker Billy Sharp will join Championship side Hull City on 1 January 2024, on a deal until the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has scored 255 goals in 642 league appearances during a career which also took in a stint with Scunthorpe United.

Sharp scored six goals in 12 games for his last club, MLS team LA Galaxy.

"It's the ultimate no-brainer," Hull boss Liam Rosenior said.

"We've got an exciting, young, attacking group of players but what I found in my experience of promotion, and Billy has five, is that when you get to April and May, you need people who have been there, seen it and done it."

The announcement confirmed BBC Radio Humberside's report that Sharp was the unnamed player owner Acun Ilicali said Hull had struck a deal for earlier this week.

Sharp led boyhood team Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League on two occasions, as well as into the Championship. His goals as a youngster steered Scunthorpe into the Championship, while he helped Southampton into the top tier.

Hull are sixth in the Championship, three points clear of seventh-placed Sunderland.

"Wherever Billy has been, he's scored goals - and at crucial moments in games," Rosenior added.

"To bring in someone of his quality and experience is of huge benefit to the club."
