Notes
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) is the first compilation album by The Rolling Stones,
released on 28 March 1966, on London Records in the US and on 4 November 1966, by Decca in the UK.
The American edition focused on songs from 1964 and 1965 with two new tunes: the recent "19th Nervous Breakdown" and the re-recorded "Time Is On My Side" with the guitar intro. The British version covered a longer period, from the group's first single A-side in 1963, "Come On", to several songs from 1966, including the recent hit "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow? ".
Performed by:
Mick Jagger – lead vocals, harmonica / Brian Jones (5) – rhythm and lead guitar, slide guitar, sitar, harmonica, dulcimer, backing vocals
Keith Richards – lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals / Charlie Watts – drums / Bill Wyman – bass guitar, organ, backing vocals
USA issues have a different track list than UK issues.
The USA cover image is the back-cover image in the UK.
UK vinyl covers have both pale blue & pale green cover text versions, as well as plain text & mono-asterisked text tracklist versions on back cover.
The first UK pressing from november 1966 has 'unboxed' green labels (stereo) and light blue labels (mono) with silver lettering.
The early UK pressing is identified by the tax code "KT". It MUST be present on labels and on matrix/runout, otherwise it is a later pressing, as explained here below:
Most of the Decca records has also a tax code around 12 a clock on the vinyl. This tax code is not any specific Decca code but the official code used in UK before 1973 to determinate the sales tax %.
- MT code was the official tax code in UK from January 1st to June 30th 1963.
- KT code was used in between July 1st 1963 and November 22nd 1968.
- JT code was used from November 23rd 1968 and up to April 1st 1973 when UK government took the VAT tax system into use.
If the tax code is missing, then the LP is pressed after April 1st 1973.
The dates mentioned are the official dates when the codes changed. There may be a slight overlap as it is not known how fast Decca did change the stampers to have the correct tax code. Some LP’s do have a double coding, both JT and KT on the same vinyl. These LP’s may have been pressed just about the time when the code change took place, November 1968.

It's not the Best Sound. ☺️ But its a great Album!referencing Big Hits [High Tide And Green Grass] (LP, Compilation, Reissue, Mono, 180 gram, Gatefold) 018771213413
In my opinion, the tracks are played back a little too quietly, an unpleasant hissing can be heard between the songs, especially towards the end of the second side.
All tracks in mono.
I prefer my UK pressing from 1973. Powerful sound.- 1966 unboxed UK Decca LP with KT tax codes. My NM 1966 UK version has 2A/3A in deadwax and is currently not in Discogs. The soundstage and sonics for this mono LP were spectacular with my audio-technica AT33 mono cartridge. Even though I have heard these songs a million times before on vinyl (remastered and on the 1966 1st Mono US London pressing), heard new sonic details that I had never noticed before. Wow!!!!

A lovely early Stones compilation from before the psychedelic era of Between the Buttons and Satanic Majesties, but the inclusion of "Good Times, Bad Times" seems a little odd to me. I personally would have chosen Little Red Rooster, Walking the Dog, or If You Need Me, among others. However, go for mono with this and any 60s Stones vinyl, the fake stereo drives me crackers.- the mix on my copy sounds weird like they used bad tape... the music moves around the vocals there is audible drop out...
- IMO one of, if not the worst fake stereo I've ever heard, but flipping the switch on my receiver to "mono" fixes it and it sounds pretty decent. The fake stereo actually hurts me to listen to.
- My copy in particular is in pretty shit shape but the guitar and drums on this album are still thunderous and loud. The mono cuts are likely the best ones.
