Awesome book! Brought back so many good memories of myself & my best friend. We are 5 yrs younger then the characters in this book and lived through all of the history in this story. Reliving the times of this book had me crying, laughing and feeling loved. So much of the book parallel our lives it was amazing. Loved the characters and storyline. It was beautifully written by an talented author.

And she dating this guy from high school and she gotget at this gas and see this other guy's name is Nick and she's falling for him she just want him to kiss her but he won't because she's wearing Scott class ring . So she decided to break up with Scott so she can be with Nick and so he takes her on his motorcycle and they have the time of there life. Than at the prom she meets him at the bleachers and they dance to the music and than they fall in love and he dad doesn't want he dating Nick Murphy because he's trouble. And Jillian said he's changed and her father doesn't believe her so she's seeing him behind his back and they want to get married but not until her father approval of him so he decided to take a job as a macanic at the dealership than he signed up for the military to be a helicopter pilot and ends up going to Vietnam and Jillian sends him his mom's metal that he gave her to wear so she gave it back to bring him luck. Than he told her how bad it was and told her that if it wasn't for this medal I might have not made it back to base . Than Jillian has a bad dream about Nick and she tells Lesley and she said it's just a bad dream don't let it consume you . Than she doesn't hear from him that her mom get a call from his dad and tells her his helicopter was short down and he saved a man let feeling just before he died and Jillian was desivated and didn't want to go on and Lesley helped her get through this ordeal and Jillian kept writing in her journal about her love for Nick than she had lunch with the guy her dad tried to fix her up with and they had a lot in common and she fell in love with him and they got married and had a daughter and than she wanted another child and got pregnant again and ended up having a miscarriage and it was a boy her mom came and stayed with her for a week and told her that she had three miscarriage before she had her that who she was an only child they didn't want to risk her life. So Jillian felt better knowing that her mom knew what she was going through helped her heal than her husband wasn't feeling good so she called the ambulance and he had a heart attack and went in for surgery and came home and she was by his side until he was feeling better and that he had another attack and they couldn't save him so Lesley and her mom helped her get through this and her daughter came home to be with her and told her she met a nice man from England and he wants her to meet his family and they end up getting married in England and she stayed with them for a month than went back home than she meet this guy who lost his wife and they end up talking all night and so he goes home and than he asked her out to Dr and than her daughter and son in law come home to visit and Gary ask her daughter if he can marry her mom and she is so excited and so Gary asked her to marry him and she wants to but is afraid he going to die like her husband's before him and her daughter and Lesley tell you only have one life to live so Gary moves to Florida to live and Jillian starts to miss him and ends up calling him and asking if she's to late to marry him so they have a small wedding and move to Florida and Jillian asked Lesley and Steve to move down there so they can be neighbors so Lesley ask Jillian to send her all the information so they can look into to it and so Steve says yes to moving to Florida.

An interesting story, but awkwardly told.

This book was ok as far as stories go but it was bad as far as epistolary novels go. The story is told via correspondence. Most of the entries were from one of the two main characters but there are occasional letters from secondary characters or the occasional walk in. And there's the problem. In an epistolary novel each character should have her own voice. That's pretty much the entire point of an epistolary novel, actually. Yet I could not tell the different between the main characters; there were several times I had to flip back to the start of the section to see which woman was writing.

Even more tiresome was the way Macomber shoe-horned in mentions of current events. So many times it just felt completely contrived. There would be a whole letter about some family crisis with the character and then she'd tack on something like "and isn't it just sad about the failed rescue for the Iran Hostages?" I assume the idea was to create a feel for the era of the story. That would have been easier to do if she'd given the characters their own voices instead of leaving them as generic narrators.

In spite of those very real problems I give the book 2.5 stars because I was enough interested in Lesley and Jillian to stick around and see how their stories played out.

I never imagined the pain and how much friends help.. The book was a help to release the pain with tears. and have a friend from childhood that like Jillian's. . Best friends are greatest comfort. Recommend it for people who are going through worst time of their lives and friends urge you to cry and cry with you. . No one can imagine the pain or how comforting friends who understand how hard it is to be alone and how much their caring helps. Made me realize how being alone is so smothering, like having heart and body torn in pieces. It was less painful with son as had my husband always with me. and so was easier to not drown in darkness and pain. Without someone you want to die. Don't be alone and try to not think as not breathing is scary and painful- like having darkness smother you. Thanks Debbie. You had to experience it to be able to express the pain so well. .
