- TriviaClark Gable's last picture before he was released from his MGM contract in March 1954. He first signed with the studio in 1930 (he'd first appeared at the studio as an extra in The Merry Widow (1925)). By the early 1950s most of his films were unsuccessful at the box office and MGM found it difficult to justify his $500,000 per year salary. Gable too was anxious to enter into far more lucrative percentage deals and would do so exclusively for the remaining 6 years of his life.
- GoofsIn his opening narration, Gen. Ten Eyck (Louis Calhern) states, "This is spring, nineteen hundred and forty-three." A few moments later, however, Gen. Larraby rides up to his office and when a soldier says to him, "Lovely day, isn't it?", he replies, "Yes it is, and October too." (And a day or so later, the German radio announces it will execute Dutch hostages the next day, October 21.)

GABLE, TURNER AND MATURE ARE GREAT IN THIS FILM!
Recently viewed this film and enjoyed seeing actors like Victor Mature("I Wake Up Screaming" '41); Clark Gable("Gone With the Wind") and Lana Turner("Imitation of Life" '59) and Louis Calhern("The Asphalt Jungle '50). This film kept you on the edge of your seat, always wondering if Lana Turner was a counter-spy for the Germans or the Dutch people during WW II. There was lots of action blowing up Nazi installations, and the struggles that the Dutch people had with the German occupation of their country. All these actors showed their mature age over the years,(Age is a great GIFT) however, Clark Gable, Victor Mature and Lana Turner never lost their charms for making very warm romantic scenes without having to take their clothes off! Try to catch this film on TV, you will enjoy seeing Classic film actors really at work.
