CD features some of the best works produced by the late Peter Tosh in the 1980s. Great range of moods. Would make a nice gift for those unfamiliar with this Reggae Warrior's contributions to the music industry and also serve as a worthwhile cd for his fans to own.

The Best of Peter Tosh: Dread Don't Die is an excellent compilation of the best of his '80s albums. While there are fewer of his trademark songs than on his more popular compilation Scrolls Of The Prophet, Dread Don't Die is a stronger collection. Also worth mentioning is that the sameness which hurt Scrolls Of The Prophet is absent as every track here is top notch.
The songs here are in chronological order with the exception of "(You Got To Walk And) Don't Look Back", his duet with Mick Jagger. That track along with the haunting "Fools Die" are the only repeat selections from Scrolls Of The Prophet. Both of these are tracks are among his best work with "Fools Die" featuring Tosh at his most sentimental. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Tracks such as "Reggae Mylitis" and "Where You Gonna Run" are great tracks with melodic horn lines and laid back arrangements while "That's What They Will Do" and "Wanted Dread Or Alive" feature great camaderie between Tosh and his backing vocalists as well as simple yet poignant lyrics. "Coming In Hot", "Crystal Ball", and "Glasshouse" are a little livelier and more upbeat. The live versions of "Get Up, Stand Up" and "Equal Rights/Downpressor Man" are killer with the former being superior musically than Bob Marley's version. Finally, his version of "Johnny B. Goode" is a great reggae update on a rock n'roll classic. All told, this is an excellent collection that all reggae music fans should own.

A very good sampling of Peter Tosh's later work. Many of these tracks are from some of his later albums but this collection is very nice. It starts out strong with the bouncy comin in hot , wanted dead or alive and thats what they will do. Peter has a little fun with the catchy Reggae Mylitis (a fave of mine). Glass house and Johnn B goode (yes, johnny B goode)are also two of my personal Tosh favorites that I'm glad are included the live songs, especially Peter's version of get up stand up give you a small taste of what it was like to be at one of his concerts. But to me the jewel of this collection is the Uplifting ballad Fools die in which Tosh's barritone voice usually known for it's rousing strenght and power is soft, gentle, restrained but no less powerful. A must for Fan's of Tosh that have heard Legalize it and want to hear some of his later work.

Reggae legend & former Wailer Peter Tosh finally has a long deserved 'best of' honoring some of his classic recordings from 5
of his 6 solo albums from'78 to'86. Oddly...Nothing from his final masterpiece No Nuclear War/EMI released just a few
months before his untimely death on September 11, '87 in Jamaica is included? 12 selections make up this CD including the
Reggafied cover of "Johnny Be Goode", the beautiful "Fools Die", " (You Got To Walk And) Don't Look Back" with Mick
Jagger & the smoldering live version of "Get Up, Stand Up" which, though co-written with Reggae King Bob Marley, was as
much Tosh's anthem as it was Marley's. Interesting liner notes on Tosh's life and career add a nice touch to this collection.
WHO THE CAP FIT? If Reggae's your thing and Tosh is your man, you should not be without this CD. Digitally remastered
and you really feel the bass!

If you love Bob Marely then you have to love Peter Tosh, (they grew up and worked together- he was part of the Wailers) Peter Tosh's music is great becuse it workes with his times and our... His music is truth with a melody... He is the oppoiste of Bob M. in his songs but just as powerful. I love him!!!

This "best of" collection mostly looks at his 80's material, with a few exceptions- its an EMI disc, and Tosh recorded on EMI for the last 3 lps he did, and EMI was also involved with the Rolling Stones at this point, thus the inclusion of "Don't Look Back" from the "Bush Doctor" lp.
Towards the end of his life, while Tosh mellowed out little, he clearly began to use the power of his experiences and heinsight to better get his points across. This tactic added a open human experience to his songs- showcasing his growth as a man. This growth helped make his final few lps great listens, and help to explain many of the songs on this disc.
The songs on this cd are well chosen and are nice looks at Tosh in the 80's. A very nice collection.
