R | 92 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

82 Metascore

Director: Beth de Araújo | Stars: Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Dana Millican, Melissa Paulo

This is my favorite movie this year. Que the Kayne Power song. Holy crap did I love this movie from beginning to end. Speaking of Ye, he would eat the hell out of that pie. But without fail I make a mission to see one movie that comes completely out of nowhere and jumps all the way to number one. Which film clearly did. Immediately after watching this I knew that this would be my favorite movie of the year. 2018 had The Guilty, 2021 had The Novice and now 2022 has this one. Without fail this undoubtedly became my favorite. Going in blind as hell and what a treat to behold.

Did anyone else find this movie darkly funny.

2. The Batman (2022)

PG-13 | 176 min | Action, Crime, Drama

72 Metascore

When a sadistic serial killer begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, Batman is forced to investigate the city's hidden corruption and question his family's involvement.

Director: Matt Reeves | Stars: Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell

Votes: 786,225 | Gross: $369.35M

Phenomenal. Absolutely a movie that will stand the test of time of being one of the best superhero movies ever made. Top 3 already for me. And I can already see it staying as my favorite movie of the year. Holy shit is this movie flat out amazing. Honestly I haven’t seen a movie this stylish pulled off efficiently in a long time. Some movies do create a mood and have cool camera techniques but sometimes those movies don’t really gel well enough with the actual story. Or knows how to fit it with the narrative. A lot of movies have great style but for me this is a great example of how a director and his team knows a perfect balance. Matt Reeves and his team knocked this one out of the park and did not let up. It is that good. To me this is just behind The Dark Knight but it is real close. But in further rewatches it might actually be better. The fight scenes are better, the overall mode is handled better, to me certain aspects heighten this movie to be almost the best Batman movie and best superhero movie ever made. However, this is a flat out epic. With sweeping music, a complex story spanning across multiple characters, and an ending that really makes you feel a weight has been lifted off of you. Because we have been put through hell and when this movie ends it certainly made me believe in The Batman. We love this character and it wasn’t till the end is where he finally becomes The Batman. No offense to Marvel but it did take them like 6 movies of Spider-Man to finally have Spider-Man. Here we did it in one movie. I love it.

3. All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

R | 148 min | Action, Drama, War

76 Metascore

A young German soldier's terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I.

Director: Edward Berger | Stars: Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus

Votes: 245,284

Netflix be putting out some straight up bangers and now with this film alone it has solidified it being the best streaming service out there. Holy crap did I love this movie. I have watched it twice now and hell it might even be better than The Batman. I love the original and I love the book. While this does go into other directions that depart from both versions it still has enough changes to warrant another retelling of this story. I appreciate the change in the ending along with adding scenes to reiterate what it was like during this time. Now this movie will never reach what Come and See has accomplished. Actually I’m pretty certain no movie ever will be like Come and See. And even that is a small taste of what war was like. War movies now are very hard to pull off more than ever because what are they truly made for. Many people including myself will question why are continually putting ourselves through these stories. Maybe history movies are done for. I mean hell look at the so called “Oscar” movies that are coming out. No one wants to go see them. I don’t know the true answer but I will continue to keep watching them if they are this good. Which is a shame because I would have love to see this in a theater. I saw Glass Onion in a theater and even though I didn’t love it Netflix is just the studio. Both of those projects don’t have a Netflix feel or felt like it was made by an AI but two completely different movies that feel unique in there own ways. This just happens to be the better movie.

4. Till (I) (2022)

PG-13 | 130 min | Biography, Crime, Drama

77 Metascore

In 1955, after Emmett Till is murdered in a brutal lynching, his mother vows to expose the racism behind the attack while working to have those involved brought to justice.

Director: Chinonye Chukwu | Stars: Danielle Deadwyler, Jalyn Hall, Frankie Faison, Haley Bennett

Votes: 15,193

If you have never heard about what happened to Emmett Till maybe this is a good enough start. As always with movies based on real life, this movie in specifically it is required to know from beginning the end of what Emmett Till had to go through. The minute he stepped in Money, Mississippi, as the movie depicts, he never was able to be a boy with ambition and freedom ever again. We just get audio of the actual event that happened to Emmett Till but it still is hard enough to listen.

If you know what happened to Emmett Till then the movie up until that point will be one of the most uncomfortable experience you can feel while also standing at arms length to get the full scope of what is too come. Like holy crap even before the title pops up it still packs a meaty punch for you to feel the weight of the situation.

Danielle Deadwyler is amazing in her scenes and most definitely should be considered for best actress. We could be heading into one of the most exciting lead actress group we have seen in a long time. Just base on her performance alone is worthy a five star movie but everything works so damn well around her that she along with the movie can’t hold either back. So going forward I hope this movie gets the recognition it deserves. But don’t let this movie be the only thing you learn from Emmitt Till. Along with his mother’s journey to bring justice for her son. To only this country and justice system failed her and failed Emmitt Till.

5. Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)

R | 139 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

81 Metascore

A middle-aged Chinese immigrant is swept up into an insane adventure in which she alone can save existence by exploring other universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.

Directors: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert | Stars: Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan

Votes: 532,293 | Gross: $72.86M

It might be better than The Batman. But the fact that I already have another movie fighting for that top spot just proves how good of year it is. Already two films are going back and forth of what is my favorite movie of the year. When my top spot last year got discovered way late into the year. But 4 months in and we already have a good batch of movies here that gives the rest of the year anticipation to see what else we have in store.

9/10- it might even be a 10.

6. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)

PG | 117 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

79 Metascore

A father's wish magically brings a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him a chance to care for the child.

Directors: Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson | Stars: Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Burn Gorman

Votes: 112,961

Yep two count ‘‘em two animated films on my top ten. Great year for horror and and great year for animated films. Along with even big blockbusters because I could have easily see myself along with others put many of the great different films that have been released in their top ten. But GDT’s Pinocchio is by far something to be desired. I have been wanting to rewatch this film ever since it debuted in Netflix. Which is weird because this is in all else purposes a bleak and dyer outlook on life. We all have an end, some unexpected and closer than we hoped. Those who stayed can make up those lost times by doing something that could last forever. You know Brendan Gleason in The Banshees of Ed Siren really wants to be remembered only for The Penguin to tell him that the closest people to us are the ones who continue on our legacy. As evident here the time Gepottio, Sebastian J. Cricket, and Spazzatura all gave something to Pinocchio and that is something he will never forget.

9/10

7. Athena (2022)

R | 99 min | Action, Drama, Thriller

73 Metascore

Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in unexplained circumstances, three siblings have their lives thrown into chaos.

Director: Romain Gavras | Stars: Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Anthony Bajon, Ouassini Embarek

Votes: 22,308

This is one of my favorites this year. I know one take movies or long takes in films are becoming a cliché at this point but when they deliver they deliver. Boiling Point which I just recently saw was all in one take and this is not a one take film. It just so happens to have very long takes. Which I kinda appreciate more. The stakes are high because it is given the ability to move across apartments while still feel so close and tight with its camera work and editing. It may have some plot points that do go on for a while but I was in for this ride. My favorite movie of all time is La Haine. This is just another reminder that as far back as that film goes nothing has changed. Which makes films like this, Les Miserables (2019) and Enforcement make dramas like this have a wide range of appeal while also sustaining a personal story that fits this narrative. Because this story doesn’t just focus on one side. The movie goes from character to character until they meet at the end. Masterfully done here like I said with all the right aesthetics you need for a film like this. It truly is a great start to what sure is to come in the upcoming months. Check this one out because it is not like the rest. It is powerful and even tho I may not like this ending it at least makes an impact that so many movies recently haven’t.

9/10

8. Barbarian (2022)

R | 102 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

78 Metascore

A woman staying at an Airbnb discovers that the house she has rented is not what it seems.

Director: Zach Cregger | Stars: Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis

Votes: 179,970

This might just be my second favorite movie of the year. While yes these other movies might be better made movies, this still has a lot of flare and personality that something like this can’t be ignored. The best movies that have this type of structure can be risky. Take a look at Tusk which shows its hand pretty early on. And so does this. But compared to that movie this one has more tricks up it’s sleeve. It has a moment to redeem Justin Long. Multiple times you are supposed to be forgetting that you are watching a horror movie and want you to be relaxed. To then only quickly grab the shit out of you to scare the ever living shit out of you. Pennywise is a great at playing a regular awkward dude. I can see why this would interest him to do something like this because the whole time you are expecting this to turn into the movie you think it is going into, then it completely turns this story on its head. I was left breathless of how they pulled this off. But the crown jewel herself is Georgina Campbell. Which I haven’t seen since her Black Mirror episode and here she has to be among the conversation of one of the best final girls of this new generation.

9/10

9. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

PG | 102 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

73 Metascore

Directors: Joel Crawford, Januel Mercado | Stars: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh

Votes: 174,785 | Gross: $168.46M

The best villains, the best story, and quite possibly the best hero to ever put forth on screen. In terms of Dreamworks of course.

9/10

10. Nope (2022)

R | 130 min | Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi

77 Metascore

The residents of a lonely gulch in inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

Director: Jordan Peele | Stars: Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott

Votes: 265,430 | Gross: $123.28M

Awesome. I really like JP’s previous two movies but for me I know I can’t speak for others but this is without the best film he has done. I think the pay offs are there and are so damn good that I got wrapped up in the story that it did remind of the old blockbusters that premiered way back in the day.

10/10

11. The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

R | 114 min | Comedy, Drama

87 Metascore

Director: Martin McDonagh | Stars: Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Pat Shortt

Votes: 252,698

12. Tár (2022)

Justice for Tar.

9/10

13. Aftersun (II) (2022)

R | 102 min | Drama

95 Metascore

Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn't...

Director: Charlotte Wells | Stars: Paul Mescal, Frankie Corio, Celia Rowlson-Hall, Sally Messham

Votes: 93,366

Beautiful and just downright haunting. I still feel like the overall message is don’t have kids. Sorry but that is what I took away from the movie.

Aside from me being like that this movie is something that really did change me. I hate that cliche, I really do but god damn if that does not apply to this one. Possibly the best use of any song this year with Under Pressure and the way it fits within the story can’t be forgotten. I haven’t cried like that in a long time. I honestly can’t be like look at the symbolism in this scene or what does it all mean. I simply took away a daughter coming to realization that she didn’t cherish the time she had with her father. Now that he is gone she left to resort the only memory she has of him and that is this videotape. I know I like to be the put your phone done type of guy but seriously movies like this remind why we need to hold on these special moments. We have no idea that one day those memories will be lost forever. The vacation itself is a blur for a reason and us reliving these memories with Frankie is just as heartbreaking and melancholy as she remembers it.

9/10

14. RRR (2022)

Not Rated | 187 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

83 Metascore

Director: S.S. Rajamouli | Stars: N.T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt

Votes: 167,194 | Gross: $14.50M

This is a pretty crazy movie and one I’m glad to have seen. It does have heart and villains you just freaking hate and can’t wait to see meet their end. That is something that has been missing from our movies in a long long LONG time.

10/10

15. This Place Rules (2022)

TV-MA | 82 min | Documentary, Crime, History

Hilarious in its own way and brilliant among the rest of us. This is Ana awesome if not terrifying look on our country. Or one we already knew of.

9/10

16. Mad God (2021)

Unrated | 83 min | Animation, Fantasy, Horror

80 Metascore

The Assassin travels through a nightmare underworld of tortured souls, ruined cities and wretched monstrosities forged from the primordial horrors of the unconscious mind of Phil Tippett, the world's preeminent stop-motion animator.

Director: Phil Tippett | Stars: Alex Cox, Niketa Roman, Satish Ratakonda, Harper Taylor

Votes: 14,679

Yep this top 5 right here is something special and I love that this is coming as I’m writing this half of the year. So my top five will be hard to top. Because seriously this is an amazing feat of achievement that is hardly something you never see. This thing is insane and it is something you will ever see again. I’m definitely watching this thing again high as a kite because holy crap is this a trip that should not be forgotten. If this took homeboy 30 years to make it is worth it. I’m just glad to see his creation come to fruition. No matter the result I’m just glad to see this in full. It is awesome. This thing is just a full blast that doesn’t let up and I’m glad that it is a post apocalyptic story in the same vein as classics like Stalker. It is that good.

9/10

17. The Northman (2022)

R | 137 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

82 Metascore

A young Viking prince is on a quest to avenge his father's murder.

Director: Robert Eggers | Stars: Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Ethan Hawke

Votes: 253,285 | Gross: $34.23M

I honestly feel like my top 4 are all fighting for that top spot because all 4 movies are near and dear to my heart as my favorites of the year. Even this one where I didn’t think I would like it that much. Instead I freaking fell in love with this crazy insane flick that is Eggers making the film that he wants to make. All performances are grade A but even some surprises here and there especially from the two women. Kidman and Joy may not be totally out of their element but they are delivering work that they haven’t in a long time. True Blood, Tarzan, and Generation Kill has delivered some great performances but yeah no contest this is his best work. The movie is just so damn good and yeah I should have watched this in theaters because it did technically bomb at the box office but man even at home I got the full experience.

9/10

18. She Said (2022)

R | 129 min | Drama, History

Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey's quest to break the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Director: Maria Schrader | Stars: Zoe Kazan, Carey Mulligan, Patricia Clarkson, Lola Petticrew

Votes: 39,664

This years “Oscar” bait movies maybe not hitting them out of the park but She Said has three important factors to stand out from the rest. Number one is that this movie doesn’t miss a beat. From the word go we are taken on this ride that is going 100 mph with no intention in stopping. A huge credit has to go to the screenplay which for my money that is its best shot come this award season. No. 2 are the performances. But the one who is getting the most praise is Carey Mulligan which she deserves. Her scene with Weinstein alone where she is just sitting there is pretty good. My choice is Zoe Kazan who I have been a huge fan of since day uno so I’m glad she is front and center here. The third is actually the showcase of not knowing what happened. If you don’t know this story I feel like this movie covers all basis of this story. Sadly I know about all this. I was glued to every news piece article that came out, not only just the Weinstein stuff but the women and their stories about coming forward. It wasn’t easy for these women and we saw in real time the full effect it had on these women. So it kinda makes the movie redundant at points because I already know half this stuff. I heard the Weinstein phone call to the beauty pageant winner, I knew about Bill O Riley and the countless amount of MDA women had to sign in order to keep their jobs or even to keep living. So the movie doesn’t have much to offer aside from that. But again the performances are top notch and for a two hour plus movie it doesn’t feel like it. Compared to the other “Oscar” bait two plus hour movies. I mean I felt all of two hours of The Fablemans, Amsterdam, etc. etc.

8/10

19. Thirteen Lives (2022)

PG-13 | 147 min | Biography, Drama, Thriller

66 Metascore

A rescue mission is assembled in Thailand where a group of young boys and their soccer coach are trapped in a system of underground caves that are flooding.

Director: Ron Howard | Stars: Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, Tom Bateman

Votes: 67,457

Howard’s best since Rush. The fact that this movie is this high up to me is crazy and unexpected. I remember hearing about this story and furthermore my own optimism started fading away. Even tho I knew the ending I still felt some shit was still going to go down.

9/10

20. Bullet Train (2022)

R | 127 min | Action, Comedy, Thriller

49 Metascore

Five assassins aboard a swiftly-moving bullet train find out that their missions have something in common.

Director: David Leitch | Stars: Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry

Votes: 426,621 | Gross: $103.37M

Just slightly, barely made my top ten. Like it is right there at number 10. I know for a fact it will not stay in my top 10 but holy crap did I have a blast. First I laughed my ass off. I sincerely did not think I was going to laugh so hard at this movie. This is a full blown Guy Ritchie knock off, let’s be honest, just made with a higher budget. But Ritchie from beginning to end doesn’t have distracting factors in his script. A huge factor is Ritchie writing his own scripts, so as far as I have seen David Letich is not a screen writer but he is definitely a fan of the directors that paved the way before him. He also is borrowing a lot not only from those filmmakers but also himself. This movie ends the same way Deadpool 2 ends. Which was his previous movie and even Hobbs and Shaw has a lot in here. But he is more comfortable in the R rating. I mean hell Kick-Ass here is throwing more F- bombs than a gangster in a Scorsese movie. It started off strong and serious but as the movie went along it knew exactly what cards it was holding to be one of the most entertaining movies to come out in a while. Maybe one or two characters weren’t needed. You see that is where Ritchie and Tarantino have over him because all of his characters matter and have a place in the story. This is a flat out action comedy that both succeeds in action with some cool hand to hand fight scenes along with the comedy just flat out being creative with these jokes and physical comedy is just as funny. Gosh I honestly just want to see the movie again because I had a blast and couldn’t stop laughing. Another aspect is that I’m glad this movie isn’t afraid to kill off some characters. It has some fake outs but a majority of this cast are red shirts but needed. I laughed and just had a full blown blast.

9/10

21. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Drama

78 Metascore

After thirty years, Maverick is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator, but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN's elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.

Director: Joseph Kosinski | Stars: Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer

Votes: 695,609 | Gross: $718.73M

We have been flooded with great content but not only at home but also in theaters which finally we have a film that everyone can get behind. It is has been amazing seeing just everyone from all walks of life just champion and cheer on a film that is only a 7/10. Naw I’m kidding it ain’t that bland but this film is flat out an awesome ride that takes the audience along with them. It is a great time to go to the movies and with movies like this and EEAAO playing it is no secret that movies are back and better than ever.

9/10

22. Hustle (2022)

R | 117 min | Comedy, Drama, Sport

68 Metascore

A basketball scout discovers a phenomenal street ball player while in Spain and sees the prospect as his opportunity to get back into the NBA.

Director: Jeremiah Zagar | Stars: Adam Sandler, Queen Latifah, Juancho Hernangomez, Ben Foster

Votes: 143,979

Sports movies this good rarely come around anymore. I honestly can’t think of one to come out in recent years that have had this much of an impact. From Sandler to actual basketball stars this movie is filled with great performances that are a given. But what is most impressive to me is the direction and the writing. We know Sandler loves the game of basketball but his business side and human connections he has with Cruz is really what makes this movie pop and stand out. For me movies this good are hard to come by. Because it is not just from the directing, writing, acting, etc. but how I felt while watching it and this might be the best sports movie to come out for a long time. Winning Time is covering the mainstream stuff of basketball and this is a nice little boots on the ground approach.

9/10

23. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

PG-13 | 161 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

67 Metascore

The people of Wakanda fight to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T'Challa.

Director: Ryan Coogler | Stars: Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke

Votes: 305,229 | Gross: $453.72M

It’s the ending for me that really stands out. The realization on Sheri’s face to not become the evil, to stand against those who try to turn us into something we are not. Along with that beach scene where she can finally put peace with the hand she was left with. It is beautiful and something we rarely see in superhero movies.

9/10

24. Fresh (2022)

R | 114 min | Horror, Thriller

67 Metascore

Director: Mimi Cave | Stars: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sebastian Stan, Jojo T. Gibbs, Andrea Bang

Votes: 74,023

The month of March coming in with the haymakers. I really like this movie. I actually found it more funny than I thought I would. For some reason this level of dark humor really struck a core with me and I was having a ball with the movie. The two leads here are without a doubt two very charismatic actors who sell the hell out of what is written for them. You buy the relationship in the beginning and from there on you are on board. This is an entertaining movie that has enough wit and charm to it that it never over stays it’s welcome instead it really goes for its story to really emphasize just how deeply cool this movie is. It is a lot of fun watching this movie just to see how all of this will unfold. With like I said not only funny characters but the script is also really funny. With some excellent camera work to heighten the absurdity of what is going on.

9/10

25. Lucy and Desi (2022)

PG | 103 min | Documentary, Biography, Comedy

73 Metascore

This film will explore the rise of comedian icon Lucille Ball, her relationship with Desi Arnaz, and how their groundbreaking sitcom I Love Lucy forever changed Hollywood, cementing her legacy long after her death in 1989.

Director: Amy Poehler | Stars: Lucie Arnaz, Bette Midler, Carol Burnett, Laura Laplaca

Votes: 3,016

Yep March is just getting started. I love this documentary and it is just perfect for someone like me who loves Lucy and her story. This is shorter than Being the Ricardos and even so it spans across multiple decades which it gets to say a lot more. It already has one leg up than that film because it is just delightful and beautiful to watch. Art should be dangerous and strike a nerve but sometimes watching something like this that makes me warm while also heartfelt is something I need in my life. This is it.

If Mad God doesn’t get nominated, which who am I kidding it will not, then this should be a shoe in to win best animated feature. It may have some more childish humor for my liking but this is still a wonderful film that fits more in line of those bare bones monster stories that are much better than what has been released lately. It has a different type of fun factor where it doesn’t relie on big monsters destroying everything but the importance of them and how they affect the characters and the story. It was such a nice journey to go on and I enjoyed every minute of what was on screen.

8/10 Netflix keep making stuff like this and I will stay subscribed.

This is probably one of the best looking documentaries I have ever seen. The shots and locations that are in this movie are insane. Some beautiful shots over looking country after country. Not only the cinematography on point but the editing is flawless shifting back and forth between these situations to make this story intense and frightening. Which is important because you want us as an audience member to feel how these women felt in certain situations. And this documentary did it with style.

On to the story man f- this dude.

In all sincerity fuck this dude. No seriously. Just like Girl in the Photo these ass holes are just the below the scum of the earth. Like God damn I knew they are awful people out there but god damn is this pushing of who is the worst of the worst. Honestly there is no place on earth for people like this and documentaries like this and Girl in the Picture are just more evident that evil are all around us. Some powerful stuff and even tho it might cross the line of exploiting these people’s trauma for our entertainment but seriously the fact that laws to prevent this aren’t federal is beyond me. I’m at least glad to know this story and these women and men got to tell their story.

Netflix yes is not hitting home run after home run. However, with these three films coming from Netflix have provided much more insight and cover most of this list compared to other streaming services. They may not be as high in my top 10 but there are some projects that justifies you having a Netflix account. These documentaries are hard to watch. Some of the hardest watches I have ever seen in my life and here is a strong case as to why do we put ourselves threw this. It just shows the scope and depth of this world which are unknown. I have never heard of these incidents and yes I probably would have been better off not knowing this tragic tale but holy crap I was not ready of this story. Anger is not even the word to describe me watching this because anger is to a person who flipped me off or even when I have my hopes held high and I’m completely disappointed. This crosses that far beyond that I can see. And it is all pointed to that mother flipper right there. Fuck that dude. Seriously but the story is not about him but instead this poor woman who was taken too soon and her son who never had a life. I’m glad at least there is some hope in this story but this shit should have never ever fucking happened. Take a chance but please take precautions and look at the trigger warnings because even myself who in my mind a very thick skinned individual. Even I was sicken to my stomach and felt extremely uneasy watching this movie.

I really like it. It is a slow burn but it is a slow burn with an incredible lead performance, an aspect ratio which I can’t help but love, and editing that is so tight that it cuts all the meat from the boring stuff that I couldn’t help but be interested in this story. Tim Roth also gives a stellar performance here that is haunting as hell. But I mean Rebecca Hall is the star and is incredible here like she is in everything. I just the more I think about it the more I like it. I truly want to go back and rewatch it again. This and Barbarian are two of my favorite horror films of the year.

Okay Netflix I may not have to cancel it just yet. Which I can say that the past few projects I have seen been up to par with my liking. Some movies to even some tv series it isn’t as bleak as I thought it was. You still have your trash like End of the Road, Lou, Day Shift, but I can at least some of those have some qualities that I do like. It is just overall I just couldn’t defend them. But this, Athena, I Came By, Dahmer, and the Untold series have been a good excuse to keep you around.

Onto this film is such a delight. Like I said I have been drowning myself to the Dahmer series on Netflix and I just needed something to keep my from going insane. And here is a movie to do it. It is a fast and breezy fun film that never tries to be something it’s not. Movies like this are the reason I see people saying is the reason why I watch movies because it just makes everything feel better. My emotions at the end of it were filled with joy and I’m sorry but no other movies made me feel that way recently. People watch movies for different reasons so each film is not going to hit the same as for others. This is a very predictable film just like Lou, End of the Road, Day Shift, Goodnight Mommy, and countless others. But this just felt right so I can’t say it didn’t move me because it did and I’m happy for that.

One of the best found footage horror movies to come out in a long time. Hell found footage movie in general. Like holy crap this was so affected that it did scare me and manage to get me to be creeped out. The last half is exciting and fun as hell. I like the third act a lot here because it just threw up its hands and said fuck it. This is some of the best camera work in a found footage movie I have seen. The editing, camera work, and tricks are all top notch and fun as hell to watch. Horror films are hitting high this year but this at the top for me. It has a lot of surprises that I think people who have no idea what this film is will have a great time. Horror films especially on this app never seem to get a good rep. They all get like a 4 or below when it reality there are some really good horror films. 6.2 isn’t terrible but this deserves at least a 7.

I’m so happy to see Mia Goth, Britney Snow, and Kid Cudi all get this praise. Even Jenny Ortega who I’m not a fan of, but she doesn’t ruin the movie. But I have always love Mia Goth and this is her best work to date. Along with Britney Snow who has some good films under her belt but I’m glad at least this one is a little more mainstream than Bushwick. I had a great time here even tho I was in a theater by myself I still felt like a presence that surrounded me of a horror audience. Because this isn’t a crowd pleaser horror movie. To that point tho this is probably the most mainstream horror film A24 as put out there. For good reason to because this is a movie that delivers in the thrills and kills. I mean I love a lot of A24 horror movies but this one scratches that slasher itch that I have been craving. We had three pretty good slashers last year with the Fear Street trilogy and this one is a good slasher to stand right next to those movies. And Britney Snow is out here putting her best foot forward and I see you.

I may be a little high on the film so as the dust settles I can see the writing on the wall that this might not be as good as I thought it was. It still has a lot to admire. First the direction from Rami is to be desired even if it is a little water down. The two lead performances might be some of the best we have seen from the MCU mainly because both characters are dealing with actual human problems. Strange with unbearable weight of a decision that cost so many people lives that he has to deal with. Even if it is build around this multiverse plot. Then we have of course the MVP herself Wanda who yeah I don’t have to say it but she goes through the ringer and we couldn’t love her any more. America Chavez has a heart breaking origin story and a pretty good arc but I kinda wish this was just the strange and Wanda show. Although enough is here with America that makes her contribution worth it. Wanda is enough of a villain here but damn I wish we just saw more of her being the villain. It could have been better but what we got here was an awesome thrill ride that did manage to get my blood pumping with excitement.

One of the best endings of the year. I was laughing my ass off. The payoff is perfect. I was questioning theorizing doing all this shit. I was trying to be all smart to only the end the way it did. I do feel like on a rewatch will be a little annoying but I had so much fun the first time around it does make me want to rewatch it again. Halina Reijn who is directing her second feature is playing with this story and characters like she has been doing this for a while now. Even before the shit hits the fan she has so much in the writing and directing that the momentum never stops. I can’t stress enough just how bold this ending is. Yeah it is pretty dark with its cinematography but the editing and acting are a huge part of why this movie is as entertaining. These are just dumb young adults who I can’t relate to in a thousand years. I’m homies with my friends and never can imagine treating them like this. That doesn’t mean I can’t like watching movies that stray away from my own personal life. That is why something like this is unique and overall a very inventive whodunit. Knives Out and Orient Express have jump started this genre for the better. Just as I expected A24 is still delivering the goods.

The fact that this turns into a straight up action movie by the end is freaking hilarious. The whole Escobar portion of the film is my type of random and out there humor that I flat out was having a great time. Evan Rachel Wood is the scene stealer and she couldn’t be better. The movie did continue to impress me with its comedy and action it managed to put a smile on my face and I had such a great time. Which I can’t believe Weird Al did all this stuff. He truly is the most interesting man in the world.

The best video game movie of all time. I know that isn’t a high bar but holy crap I had a lot of fun with this one. I love this movie and find it so much more enjoyable and entertaining than the first. You have no idea just how much I enjoyed this film. The story is better, the dynamics between each of the characters are way better and best yet this is a 2 hour movie that doesn’t even feel it. It uses its time and money wisely to a point where it is just a joy to watch. Even the emotional moments have sparks in it that you can’t get from your average family flick or even modern blockbuster. The Sonic movies are a riot and I couldn’t love them more.
