- Liam PLeeds, United Kingdom113 contributionsGood Value & ExperienceWe visited on the last day of our trip to Berlin and it was a great way to end. The tickets were cheap and offered good value, and although compact, there was plenty to see. The big cats and gorillas were a personal highlight. I would recommend buying a combined ticket with the aquarium as it is only a few euros extra and a good way to end the day.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 February 2023
- shreevieSwaffham, United Kingdom189 contributionsBrilliant zooWhat a brilliant zoo. We came for the main reason of seeing the pandas as my little girl who is 3 years loves them. So many animals here and lots of information. What surprised me what that you go into a section, for example the primates and there were so many examples of them. We especially enjoyed the hippos and the pandas. Great play parks as well. We had an amazing day and really glad we visited.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 February 2023
- karlWhittlesey, United Kingdom7 contributionsSee the pandasGood value for money plenty of animals to see was worth it just to see the pandas. Plenty of cafes. For food and drink if you need to stop lots to see if you are in Berlin and have a day to spare put this on your to-do list.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 February 2023
- gurkpeter198 contributionsClean, professional zoo with valuable collection of speciesHighly enjoyable experience. Very impressive collection and how animals are thematically arranged. Very clean, all animals are extremely well kept. Price is high but I feel the choice of animals, the way they are presented are in line with the money you pay. I would love to come back again!Visited April 2023Written 25 April 2023
- Roadtripmummy48 contributionsPanda EyesThe zoo is really spacious, plenty of walking and well kept gardens between enclosures. We went to see the pandas which were somehow entertaining even when asleep. The teen also massively enjoyed the petting zoo where she got to feed the goats. It's good value for money and well worth a visitVisited May 2023Written 30 May 2023
- LaurenCambridge, United Kingdom91 contributionsFun for everyone! My fiancé and I are in our late 20's and I can confirm that this zoo is not just for kids! There are so many animals within the zoo and the layout is amazing, giving you lots to see and do. We ended up spending over 4 hours in the zoo and were able to see everything, but we had to rush the last half an hour as we had a spa appointment, so I would recommend giving yourself lots of time to properly explore. Particular highlights for me were the petting zoo, the pandas, capybaras and the seals. Although I loved all of it! I would definitely recommend a visit when you're in the areaVisited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 June 2023
- Heather R5 contributionsGood Zoo Visit for 20EuroWe visited Berlin Zoo on our last day in Berlin before heading to the airport, we spent about 3 hours there and it was quieter than we expected for a Friday which was good. I can see where people are coming from with the comments about small enclosures, but the animals looked content. The giant panda exhibit was very impressive and there was plenty of shady benches for a rest from the sun. I would recommend a visit here especially for the price of 20euro pp, you can see why the zoo's in the UK are more expensive though as they have much more space.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 June 2023
- Karina N.Norway33 contributionsLovely, but didn't get to see the tiger or the lion...Not to be "that" person, but: I was very excited to see the big cats, but I didn't get to see any of them; except the leopard. It was raining, so he was hiding, which is understandable, of course! The thing is - the tiger(s), the lions and all the other big kitties were nowhere to be found. And there was no explanation or warning beforehand...I understand if it just happened that day, but it seems like maybe it has been like this for a few weeks, or even months now. The zoo could have said something about this on their website...Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 1 July 2023
- Bex BGloucestershire, United Kingdom33 contributionsA great zoo, but the staff treatment is not goodCame on a fairly warm day and pleasantly surprised at how it wasn’t as busy! We got there at 12 or so and stayed until 5:30 looking around, we didn’t even get to see everything (but we had seen enough!) Definitely go and see the gorilla feeding if you can, it was amazing and the gorillas are so active! Our highlights were the pandas, gorillas and the capybaras (do go to the separate area with the kangaroos and capybaras when it gets quieter, it was very peaceful) We were however disappointed at the lack of polar bears, due to all the statues of them and they’re advertisement on the website. I understand not having them due to the issue had however many years ago, but the enclosure is still there and not done anything with, grass and everything is now growing to show how long it’s been abandoned and it’s just an eyesore in the middle now. All the old signage is still up so they really need to change it or bring them back! I did however take issue with the really rude staff!! We are English and only speak the odd few German phrases. To be polite, we tried to order from one of the burger van places by the monkeys in German, and were met with snickers and laughs and mocking us (they were talking German to each other but I picked out English and Tourist) Absolutely awful treatment of a customer and that’s before we even get to the €5 small portion of chips. It was a good day all things considered, but the staffing really needs upgrading.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 July 2023
- Adrian CKingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom116 contributionsExcellent ExperienceBest zoo we have visited, that includes Shanghai and Safari Parks. The animals have lots of room area and outside space foe every species. Visitors can go into areas where the animals are indoors, top to bottom windows. Even the hippo in the water, never been so close to such a huge beast. It started raining whilst we were there but the animals were still on show. Not a lot of staff about to help with directions etc. but those we did meet were very good. Plenty of refreshment places too, made it a great experience. Give yourself 3-4 hours to enjoy everything.Visited June 2023Written 10 July 2023

Fantastic. Amazing. Unbelievably Beautiful Animals. So happy that we decided to visit. One of the best Zoo's I've been to: mainly because of the variety of animals we saw and how well they seem to be looked after. They all had loads of space and looked happy. As for variety we saw Elephants, Giraffes and for the first time in my life Pandas. It only took us 2 hours, not including the Aquarium.

A great zoo with a lot of species to see! So much range from giant pandas to farm animals. Lovely to wander around and the enclosures seem very clean. Nice and flat with easy mobility options.

This was a very good zoo with some less common animals including pandas. You could see all the big cats up close through glass and there were some huge birds as well as more standard zoo animals.
There were plenty of toilets scattered around and the food in the restaurant was delicious and a very good price.

This zoo is worth a visit and you should allow all day to get around it all to experience all there is to see. We purchased a combined ticket with the Aquarium but there was barely time to fit it all in: allow two hours if you go.
The zoo makes effort to demonstrate their commitment to animal rehabilitation which is great, but the primates house was depressing to visit. The animals are very well cared for in plenty of room, but it doesn't compare to tree canopies where they yearn to be. Many of the larger species were plainly turning their backs on the public, looked sad and bored, pacing up and down, or swinging back and forth repeatedly. The cats enclosure was very well laid out and offered plenty of sightings whether indoors or outside.
The signage could be better as there were many paths with no signposting, so it was confusing to know where to get to a specific place shown on the maps.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are also not satisfied with the Primate House, as the house no longer meets our requirements for modern and species-appropriate animal husbandry. Plans are already in full swing for a rebuild - you can find more information about it on our website.

We were worried about going during snowy, cold (-5) December weather and whether a lot of the animals would be off display. It was actually a great visit! Yes a few things were not out - mostly various birds and a few animals which it wouldn’t surprise you to learn simply hate cold weather (like the kangaroos). But many of the animals were happily outdoors, and many exhibits have climate controlled indoor areas too. We saw the lions and tigers (and all the big cats), pandas, elephants, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, hippos, gorillas, brown bears, wolves, etc etc. Pretty much everyone was out and about. Honestly it was almost better, because the cold weather meant the zoo was super quiet (in people terms)! We were also just generally really impressed with the quality of the exhibits. The architecture is diverse and interesting for most of them, things are well thought through, and there is plenty of info (in English and German). We thought the visit was definitely worth it.

There are so many reviews saying how sad and depressing this zoo is and I fail to see this in so many ways.
First of all, the zoo is massive and all the animals are spread throughout. They have enclosures outside and a smaller one inside to keep them warm in the colder months, like our visit. The enclosures all have plenty activity for the animals, to keep them active and content.
The animals all seemed very happy and we did not witness any pacing back and forth, which I have seen in previous zoos.
All the animals seemed well cared for, with ample food provided and there were lots of staff on sight caring for both animals and public.
The zoo is so interesting, with lots of beautiful buildings alongside the amazing animals.
I would highly recommend this zoo, we had a fantastic day out.

My kids loved it, especially the penguins, pandas, and hippos. On busy days it is better to get tickets online. The combined tickets for the zoo + aquarium are good for saving.

This is much bigger than I expected for being in the city center so allow plenty of time. We arrived at opening and had the park pretty much to ourselves for the first 2 hours. Even though it was very cold, we were able to see most animals either inside or outside. We really enjoyed our visit and lived our sloth cups from the shop. Would recommend

I found this zoo sad and depressing. The enclosures look like they haven't been updated since 1844. They are far too small and many of the animals were pacing back and forth, obviously in distress.
I would suggest that nobody pays the €19 entrance fee to encourage this cruelty

According to the zoo's FAQ, there are wheelchairs for rent. They also allow many walking aids and bikes for kids under 5. I know from memory that there are plenty of benches, so if someone is using a walker they will be able to sit loads.

We visited them around 10am-11am on a weekday just prior to everyone flocking to the restaurant. Even so the enclosure is well visible if there are a few more people there.

We didn’t visit the aquarium, only the zoo itself. I think it took us about four hours (without lunch).
