Apparently known as a place where Angela Merkel likes to dine, this restaurant located conveniently on Französische Straße is certainly one of a kind. You can immediately tell it is popular- every table was full when we came in and we had to wait around...10 minutes to get one, so I recommend having a reservation. Because of this high popularity, the restaurant is extremely loud during high hours. You get used to the noise, however it was a shock to me at first. Having said that, the service was excellent: one of the waiters instantly brought us menus and took our order once they were closed, and the food itself took no longer than fifteen minutes, which is impressive for a restaurant so popular. It would have been nice for the prices to have been slightly lower, but we certainly loved the food- I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel and it might have been the best one I have ever had. Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant and would like to go back. If you are dining here after 7pm, then I would propose to sit downstairs- the atmosphere is much nicer less noisy.More

I've been to Borchardt many times, mostly because of the convenient location. The price-performance ratio is not good, unfortunately. The service is poor, you would expect more, as you have international guests in this area and the restaurant has a reputation. The staff is permanently...exchanged, waiting time is long, some of the staff are hectic and unfriendly. You get better German Schnitzel in other places, where you pay half the price. The drinks are average. Had some very bad experiences when going there with international guests, who have a different understanding of hospitality.More

Disappointing evening. Restaurant tried to squeeze too many people into the night. Despite the best efforts of our waiter, the food took an eternity to come out - in total over 4 hours. No welcome drink or champagne at midnight. Band and music was fairly...nondescript and given how much we had paid we left very disappointed.More

Despite our reservation we waited half an hour for our table. We then waited another hour for the wine we had ordered. This was in fact not the bottle we had ordered (more expensive). When we received our dishes we had no napkins let alone...forks... the food was not bad but definitely nothing worth such a wait and inefficient service. Our worst experience in Berlin for sure.More

Sitting outside, surrounded by people smoking. The Tuna tataki was only 4 slices of Tuna and for the rest the plate was full of paprika cubes. No need for a chef to make this. Also the turbot was not worth ordering again at €38 The...table next to me complained about the shnitzel. This restaurant needs a real chef in the kitchen to support this price level. Avoid it in the meantimeMore

We entered the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the staff who took our coats and showed us to our table. We are an international family speaking multiple languages at the table, the waiters professionally obliged and catered to all our needs. The restaurant is...elegant, warmly lit with a modern classic decor which makes one feel very welcome. The waiters did an incredible job of serving us and the guests of the fully booked restaurant. They were friendly courteous and displayed the art of service. The service system works well and we all received our selected dishes promptly with excellent service. Our waiter recommended a wine for us which was an excellent choice. As a trip advisor contributor I have read some of the previous reviews of this restaurant, but rest assured this is a vibrant, wonderful restaurant with great traditional German cuisine . The snitzel is one of the best I have ever had. All our family were highly satisfied with their dishes including the deserts which were divine. The service did not skip a beat the entire evening , the whole team was on point. I observed the other tables of guests around us and each seemed very satisfied and received equally as good service, that was extremely efficient. The service staff were charming, happy, professional and courteous. Thank you so much giving us a lovely evening to remember. I definitely recommend booking a meal here when in Berlin.More

We booked this restaurant as a special treat on our trip to Berlin from the UK. We had high hopes, despite the 3.5 rating. We were early for our booking, as we needed to get out of the rain. We were offered a different table...(off to a good start!), but we were seated near the bar where it was impossible to get the attention of the waiter, and crowds of people queue next to you. This meant it was very noisy too. The service throughout our (3.5 hour) experience was awful. Not once did the waiter approach us to take our order. Each time we had to get their attention, as they seemed more interested in one table in particular. Our dishes weren’t cleared once and we ate dessert with our dirty dishes from starter and mains still on the table. Not Michelin if you ask me… I noticed the staff were drinking alcohol at the bar. And people were allowed to smoke in the restaurant? Bizarre. We had to ask for the bill 3 times by the same waiter, and also the manager, but neither seemed in a rush for us to pay them. In the end, we had to stand up with our coats on and insist on paying the bill - ridiculous. The waiter then watched over us to see how much we tip… we did not. He then sighed and made a sarcastic comment. We told him the service was poor and rather than apologise, he walked away without saying goodbye. The bill was extremely expensive / food is overpriced and it would have been quicker to collect our food from the kitchen myself. I would say the food was great overall, particularly the burrata to start. The schnitzel was okay - pretty average and overhyped. Unfortunately the chefs are let down by the slow, arrogant and entitled waiters. Would NOT return or recommend.More

We were there on the 28th of May this year at around 19:30 and at first it was all good. The schnitzel was great but after we got the food we were basically ignored by our server. We had to wait around 20 minutes for...a glass of apple juice (which was lukewarm) and once we asked for the check we waited for 30 minutes (even though we asked our waiter three times for it) before standing up and going to the front where we had to wait another 15-20 minutes before we could pay... Not gonna go there again.More

The restaurant manager made a point to let me know that the 16.50 Euro 3 set course menu options have run out. 10 minutes later a couple (locals it appeared) sat a few tables from me and ordered from the set menus. Miraculously they were...now available. Hmmm I thought. I mentioned this to the manager when settling the bill and he came across confused, he spoke to another waiter and walked away. Obviously embarrassed and red faced. Beware of the bogus bearded one. Waiters were great. Pity I wasn’t in the mood to tip them 20%.More

If you want to go for a good (and upscale) dinner in Berlin, there are definitely better restaurants to go to, regarding quality of both food and service. The waiter gave himself a tip of over 90% (I paid by card). Even if he thought...I'd said that amount, it's obvious that there must be a misunderstanding. In a supposedly upscale restaurant one rightfully expects much better service!More

Well, the portions are way too big and I don’t understand why they offer these huge Schnitzels, when no one finishes it. I hate throwing away food and I don’t like that fact that the restaurant doesn’t seem to care it is more of a...prestige thing. The schnitzel itself was bland (I ordered one to share) and the roasted potatoes were oily and boring The service was nice and the place was packed but the atmosphere was nothing particularly special Would not come backMore

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend as one of the best places to visit for schnitzel. From start to finish the place was kind of a disaster. Service took forever, they definitely need more servers. Even though they were all polite it took...ages for us to flag them down. As for the food- everything apart from the schnitzel and Caesar salad was way below average. Our steak tartare was tasteless and was offered without bread or chips. The tartare was really awful, so awful I couldn’t consume it. For the hefty price tag it was a real disappointment. To make matters worse there was awful music playing in the background which could barely be heard due to noisy acoustics of the space. Another issue I would like to raise, don’t go if you’re not comfortable in very dimly lot spaces. I would not recommend this place. A huge disappointment.More

Covid appears to have taken life out of this normally buzzing embassy of life. Staff is slow, unresponsive and unusually inefficient for standards of a German capital while food no longer tastes French in the Mitte. I sincerely hope it is not a long way...back for BorchardtMore

We were there to celebrate a birthday and had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Firstly, they placed us at the back of the tent at a really bad table. We asked to get another table and they told us they would find us a new table in...5 minutes. After 10-15 minutes we had to ask again, but they still did not help us. After another 10 minutes, they told us that they would not be able to find us another table. They said that we would get some drinks for free as compensation, but we never got them. Secondly, the service was absolutely terrible. They were extremely slow and inattentive,’delivered our food at different times, forgot our wine and in the end - of course - tried to charge us for more than we had ordered. We used to go to Borchardts a lot, but we will NEVER go back again.More

Our group was lucky enough to secure a table last minute through our hotel concierge. The restaurant was packed, as it had always been when I had visited before. Dining at Borchardt is an experience that is delighting on many levels. First of all, the...people. Watching the diverse crowd of all ages, dressing styles, and celebrity statuses parading through the restaurant and conversing at their tables is enough to entertain you an entire evening. Second, the Wiener Schnitzel. I rarely order this dish, but there are a few places that are famous for it for good reason. And Borchardt is definitely one of them. Finally, the staff is a delight, too; handling the demanding crowd fluently, professional, and with a pinch of humour.More
