Shailene Woodley talks about being in an open relationship.

In an interview with The New York Times, the “Divergent” star opened up about her relationship experiences. Woodley confessed that she has been in both open and monogamous relationships.

“Listen, I’m someone who has experienced both an open relationship and a deeply monogamous relationship in my life, and I think we’re in a day and age where there should be no rules except for the ones designed by two people in a partnership — or three people, whatever floats your boat!” Woodley said.

She added that there should be a level of responsibility in every relationship dynamic and that’s honesty, communication and trust. She believes that apart from that, it’s nobody else’s business on what people choose to do with their lives.

Speaking about her character Daphne in the movie “Endings, Beginnings” who is torn between dating her two best friends — Jack (Jamie Dornan), a nice guy who can provide her with stability and comfort, and Frank (Sebastian Stan), who is wilder and better in bed, she said that Daphne does not need to choose one for it just depends on the people involved.

“We’re societally conditioned to assume that one person can be our end-all, be-all,” Woodley explained.

“This is a concept I’ve been thinking about often right now, because I’m very much single [after being in a relationship for years with the rugby player Ben Volavola], and I’ve chosen to be single for a while. The idea of being with someone … is it only because you’ve fallen in love with that person, or because there’s a newness to understanding yourself because of what that person can offer you?”

Back in June, Woodley was photographed with Volavola. The “Big Little Lies” star was photographed packing on the PDA with the rugby star. They walked hand in hand and kissed publicly They hit New York City wearing matching denim jackets and he lifted her up to give her a piggy back ride. Unfortunately, the two are no longer together at present.

Meanwhile, in February, Woodley showed her support to Bernie Sanders by sharing a snap of Sanders winning the Nevada caucuses on Instagram. In the caption, she said, “I been feelin’ that strong strong BERRRNNNN.”
