Product Description

It’s a spoof to end all spoofs as comedy legend Marty Feldman (Young Frankenstein) shatters the Gary Cooper/French Foreign Legion classic in The Last Remake of Beau Geste. Set in England and Morocco in 1906, Feldman’s “remake” mocks all the do-or-die extravaganzas we’ve known and loved as he portrays Digby, identical twin brother to Michael York’s (The Island of Dr. Moreau) stalwart Beau Geste. Joining in the desert lunacy are a vast array of stars including Peter Ustinov (Death on the Nile), Terry-Thomas (Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies), Ann-Margret (52 Pick-Up) as the boys’ seductive stepmother and James Earl Jones (Star Wars) as Sheik Abdul the Disgusting. Feldman co-wrote, stars and makes his outrageous directorial debut with this zany comedy which, as the title suggests, threatens to end the whole romance-adventure genre once and for all. The hilarious cast also includes Trevor Howard (Kidnapped), Henry Gibson (The Long Goodbye), Roy Kinnear (How I Won the War), Spike Milligan (The Bed Sitting Room), Avery Schreiber (Scavenger Hunt) and Hugh Griffith (Kind Hearts and Coronets).

Special Features:
• NEW Audio Commentary by "Sledge Hammer" Creator and Feldman Friend Alan Spencer
• NEW Audio Commentary by Entertainment Journalist and Author Bryan Reesman
• NEW Audio Interview with Co-Star Michael York
• TRAILERS FROM HELL with Alan Spencer
• 4 Radio Spots

A long overdue reunion with this excellent film on a imported US blu-ray. If you can play region A discs and you like; Mothy Python, Mel Brooks & Marx Brothers, do not miss this gem. It's a great film which, unfortunately, do not appear to be made in our "political correct; -do not offend anyone" days. Maybe there is some juvenile humour to be found in the film, but thankfully, nothing like the gross over the top teenage flicks of today, most of which lack any sophistication that this film has in spades. It has a stellar cast of well known character actors. Add; Michael York, Ann-Margaret, Peter Ustinov, Roy Kinnear to Marty Feldman directorial movie debut, the result is 85 min. of giggles and laughing out loud. There are two commentary tracks, both excellent, but especially the one by Alan Spencer, who knew Marty. Also a ca. 15 min. interview with Michael York, suffering from laryngitis, is worth listening to. 3 picture galleries (just over 2 min. long each) and a trailer for the film and "In God We Trust" , rounds off the extras. All in all; well worth the cost of importing it!

Funny - but not as funny as I remember it. You'll enjoy it if you're a Marty Feldman fan and/or Brit style comedy. Feldman, as funny as he can be, is not a leading man. He's better used as he was in Young Frankenstein. Ann Margaret is gorgeous, Michael York is fine (although the nihilistic, post modern morality speech he delivers toward the end sucks), Ustinov and Kinnear are hilarious and James Earl Jones is totally miscast. On the other hand, it soars above what passes for comedy these days, so I definitely recommend it to all the non snowflakes out there.

Marty Feldman is a genius. This is like Mel Brooks’s movies.

I am not one for image quality (even though to my unrefined eye...it was good), or this digital whatchmacallit or doodad. I am one who grew up in the 70s/80s, and remember watching THE LAST REMAKE OF BEAU GESTE with my buddies on HBO (remember the old HBO???).

This movie is a classic comedy that was beautifully crafted by the mind, body, and "eye" of a British comedic genius known as Marty Feldman, may he rest in peace. It is a classic melding of British comedy with American flair, and a huge helping of Mel Brooks flavor to boot. The humor is not for everyone, and that is ok. Thank God we're not all the same, and have different tastes in comedy and what we find funny. And, Thank God....I find this funny.

This DVD is on my "must-have" list of movies, and now I am damn grateful that I could find it through Amazon.com.

Thank you Amazon for making this available to all of us.

I hadn't seen this since it was released in the theaters in 1977 and not only does it hold up, it's funnier than I remembered it being. The story of twin brothers - Marty Feldman and Michael York - who end up in the French Foreign Legion, it's hysterical. Feldman is incredible with his comedic delivery, physical comedy, and directing. "The Escape" scene is five minutes long and funnier than most entire movies. Immediately after watching this I looked up some of Feldman's British shows and they're just as funny. This movie has it all - brilliant wordplay, intelligent parody, and some outstanding slapstick. If you're a fan of Monty Python or Mel Brooks you will love this movie. It's easy to see where the Pythons got their training after watching Feldman at work. Most people know Marty Feldman from his work in Mel Brooks' movies but I'm hoping that this movie will be successful on Amazon and encourage the release of his British shows as well.

The DVD, unattainable a few years back unless for $100's, arrived packed well with bubble wrap and in perfect condition. The movie is not as funny as I remembered, possibly because there's only one first time, and the first time was in a movie theater on big screen, laughing aloud with the husband I loved, and popcorn. Not the same alone, watching on TV screen. If you like Mel Brooks, the humor is in that vein. Still irreverent chuckles over a horse with a prosthesis and a blind cafeteria server missing bowl and tray. The premise of Marty Feldman and Michael York being identical twins is amusing in itself. My favorite line, "Beau was more identical than I" ... yes, it's still funny.

Great great great great great——-“did I mention great?

Loved this movie as a kid at it was the driving force for me ordering it. The other reviews gave this item high praise and made me feel comfortable enough to pay Amazon's price.

This item's details include:
- Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 perspective
- English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono audio
- Quality packaging (this is actually a reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2).

That's it folks... It has NO menus, NO Subtitles or Closed Captions, NO other languages, NO Extras and the video quality is somewhere around that of a New VHS Tape. Because it is a (Single Layer) DVD-R there may be some playback problems on different devices.

If you LOVE this movie then I suggest you get this item (it is an Amazon Exclusive after all) for it does have a feature for you... It is designed to continuously play so it can be enjoyed for days on end. But if you're like me, you won't be happy spending more than five dollars for a movie that doesn't have basic DVD details like menus, subtitles and/or some extras (regardless of how nice the packaging looks)...

Thanks Amazon for the movie, but I doubt I'll buy anymore from the "Vault Series" at the price you're asking.
