The Battle of Jakku was a major engagement fought on and over the planet of Jakku near the end of the Galactic Civil War, and considered one of the final blows to the Galactic Empire. During the months leading up to the battle, Counselor to the Empire Gallius Rax gathered a sizeable force of what remained of the Empire to the planet of Jakku to make final stand against the New Republic and the Terran Alliance. In secret, Rax had gathered the Imperial forces there to execute the Contingency, in which he intended to fulfill Palpatine's wishes by destroying the Empire and New Republic in one fell swoop and escape with the few worthy survivors to start a new Empire.
The New Republic and Terran Alliance waited for several months to attack Jakku in order to gather their forces and properly train them for the operation. The massive operation was launched on October 17. During the battle, Rax tried to destroy Jakku in order to destroy all forces present. However, his plan was foiled by Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, who killed Rax and escaped Jakku with a handful of Imperial personnel.
The Terran Alliance and New Republic fought the Imperial forces on Jakku for almost a month. After almost a month of fighting, the Allied forces destroyed the last remaining Imperial forces. This victory solidified the dominance of the New Republic and Terran Alliance, and was a major blow to the Empire.

Imperial Disintegration[]
In the Battle of Endor, the Empire suffered a severe blow when the Rebellion and Terran Alliance destroyed the second Death Star and most of the Imperial fleet present, as well as killing Emperor Palpatine. In the battle, Darth Vader was turned back to the light side by his son and daughter in law, Luke Skywalker and Kelly Adams Skywalker. A few months after the Battle of Endor, the Rebellion was reformed into the New Republic.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, the remnants of the Empire initiated Operation Cinder as part of the Contingency. Terran Alliance forces fought back heavily, and managed to save most planets targeted by the Operation before a Terran task force destroyed the Imperial forces carrying it out at the Battle of Bestine.
In the months following the Battle of Endor, the Terran Alliance and New Republic dealt a series of crushing defeats to the Empire, capturing multiple planets and destroying large sections of the Imperial fleet. Among their successes was the capture of the Kuat Drive Yards. Together, the two groups consolidated further control over the galaxy, and the New Republic reconvened the Galactic Senate on Chandrilla. At the same time, the Empire fractured into multiple fragments, the biggest of which was led by Zsinj, though he was killed by the Terran Alliance in March, 2018. While Grand Vizier Mas Amedda, still ruled Coruscant, he was largely a powerless figurehead.
By mid 2018, Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax had assumed command of several of the remaining Imperial factions. He also commanded the Ravager, one of the last two Super Star Destroyers in Imperial service. Rax exercised control through his puppet, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane. After framing Sloane for the Attack on Chandrila, Rax took command of most of what remained of the Empire's forces and proclaimed himself Counsellor to the Empire. He then brought most of the Empire's fleet and a large portion of its remaining ground forces to the planet Jakku.
Unknown to his subordinates, Rax had brought the Empire to Jakku in order to carry out the Contingency. Fulfilling his orders from Palpatine, Rax planned to destroy Jakku's core when the Republic and Terran Alliance came after them, and blow up the planet, destroying both the Imperial forces and Repuiblic and Terran forces before escaping with the few worthy survivors to begin a new Empire.
Discovery and Preparation[]
The Terran Alliance discovered the presence of the Imperial forces on Jakku in May 2018. In the following months, the Terran Alliance trained a hand picked fleet and army to join the New Republic in assaulting Jakku. The chosen fleet was the largest assemblage of the Terran Starfleet since the Battle of Earth, and over 100,000 troops were committed to the fight.
In early October, the Terran Fleet rendezvoused with the New Republic fleet in the Mid Rim. Grand Admiral Thrawn was assigned overall command of all Terran and New Republic forces. A total 13 admirals and 9 generals were gathered for this operation.
