If we compare the "Batman Returns" score to the previous one ("Batman"), there are several differences. This score is more fragmented, edited and mixed together. That is why you get several parts for a single theme. However, Elfman is pulling through with his gorgeous style and inventive genius. The introduction (Birth Of A Penguin 1 & 2) is magnificent. The Penguin and Catwoman get their own musical themes, in which the Batman theme is sometimes incorporated. Siouxsie & The Banshees break the modern classical thematic by bringing in a boring track ("Face To Face") which served in the film's credits to clear the cinemas (nice job: it worked pretty well). Sadly, the last "Batman" score for Elfman, later replaced by Elliot Goldenthal.
