      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Loud, excessively busy, and often boring, Batman Forever nonetheless has the charisma of Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones to offer mild relief.

Miguel Ángel D Una película decente por cosas buenas como la interpretación de Jim Carrey del acertijo y malas por no tener la seriedad de las películas de Burton Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Luke V Solid cast. Unfortunately they don't mix well. Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones are just two different to work together as villains. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Rami A Batman in the mid 90s was certainly lacking. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Michael R Fun and unpretentious. This is a superhero movie that knows it's a superhero movie, and never pretends to be more serious than that. A perfect balance between Adam West's campiness and Burton's darkness, the movie never seems to cross any lines it shouldn't. It's also watchable for the soundtrack alone. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Forged S "Underrated" and "guilty pleasure," that's how I would describe Batman Forever. Val Kilmer's underrated take on Batman was far more cerebral and analytical than Michael Keaton's and for that reason, I enjoy his approach even more. It's just unfortunate that this movie swung for the fences in regards to its campiness. Also, one other issue, I rarely hear anyone mention when discussing this film, is the choice to develop physical sets rather than shoot on location. This ultimately added a certain surrealism that turned the movie into a live stunt show and severely hurt its believability. Yet, despite all the hate and mockery, I love this movie. I can't help it, it's a guilty pleasure. It was obvious the actors were having fun which only served to make the movie all the more entertaining and Jim Carrey's over-the-top take on my favorite Batman rogue, The Riddler has cemented the line, "riddle me this," in the character's lexicon forever (pun intended) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review GAMBIT S Val Kilmer one of the greatest actors to put on the batman outfit for the fans, good villian performance from jim and tommy , batman forever seems to be underrated from the gotham fans but i love it! Peter Bradshaw Guardian The whole thing is just that little bit wackier, perhaps closer to the 60s TV version - although Two-Face's burns are nastier than that show would have permitted. Rated: 4/5 May 17, 2019 Full Review Carol Buckland CNN.com Batman Forever is a visual tour de force, a knock-your-eyes-out effort. But it overdoes, overkills. And what starts out exhilarating ends up...exhausting. Jan 5, 2018 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune It doesn't add up to much, but it's certainly entertaining. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 16, 2017 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) From the iconic soundtrack to Jim Carrey’s beautifully hammy performance as The Riddler, Joel Schumacher’s first foray into Gotham City is genuinely a fantastic piece of pop art. Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Christian Eulinberg InSession Film It’s the perfect popcorn Batman movie we deserved and then some.
