      Critics Consensus

Adam West's groovy interpretation of the The Caped Crusader returns in a new medium, popping in the realm of animation with the irascible energy of an exclamation-accented onomatopoeia.

Chris M This captures the camp and fun of the silver age of Batman comics and the 1966 TV show did. Those who want their Batman dark, gritty and Nolanized is in for a groovy disappointment. There is a lot of Bat Easter Eggs from the comic books as well as other Bat-Movies. It was good to hear Adam West and Julie Newmar again. It is a campy near perfect Bat-Fun. Plus the actors that are playing the late actors from the shows are doing great imitations. Overall, a must for 60s Batfans. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/23 Full Review Jeffrey M Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders was an amazing movie. I watched it kind of a long time ago, so it is not fresh in my mind. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders was a very interesting movie. What a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/14/23 Full Review CKB Being ancient enough to have watched the original Batman series in the 1960s, I checked this out from nostalgia. The live-action show was a takeoff on comic book superheroes, so to make it into an animated cartoon loses its basic joke. That said, it was a pleasure to hear Adam West (a bit shaky), Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar reprising their original roles from 50 yrs before (!) so nicely (and to hear Penguin once again give that snarky laugh that Burgess Meredith created). The writers capture a good amount of the original's campiness, though it's hard to recreate that special excitement people felt in the 60s from messing with convention and tweaking social mores. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/22 Full Review spencer p Perfectly recreating the groovy '60s campiness and self-referential humor of Adam West's heyday (and even calling forward to some Batmen to come), this surprise sequel for his version of Batman makes the most sense for a direct-to-video gem. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Otvio F A reinterpretation of the classic TV series, I felt in the 60's, really dazzling, an animated spectacle. Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Far and away, this is a light, easy, harmless, and amusing love letter to squeaky clean family-friendly entertainment of a bygone era. Rated: 4/5 Feb 14, 2019 Full Review Rachel Wagner Rotoscopers After a year of dark and sad Batman movies, it was nice to break free from that and watch Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. Rated: 4/5 Feb 6, 2019 Full Review Maya Phillips Black Nerd Problems If you're a fan of Batman - a complex, self-aware Batman that can be funny and dark, smart and utterly ridiculous, all at the same time - Caped Crusaders is a movie you simply cannot miss. Jun 13, 2018 Full Review Ewan Paterson What Culture That said, the lack of a live action element and the transition to animation has allowed West's Batman to grow more bombastic, brilliant, and more brazenly silly than ever before Feb 22, 2018 Full Review Dave Trumbore Collider It's both a subtle jab at more dour versions of Batman in the mythology and acts as a stamp that marks West's version as a cunning and capable character. Feb 22, 2018 Full Review Scott Mendelson Forbes I wish the film dove a little deeper into its subtext (the film teases the notion of other variations of Batman side-by-side with the Adam West version but doesn't go in that direction), but what's there is enjoyable and entertaining.
