Collections are frustrating! Either they leave out some of your favorites or include songs that you don't particularly want (always worth listening to because you admire the artist, but not really among their hits). I combed through all of Helen Reddy's collections with the determination that until I found one that included her stellar performance of "And I Love You So," I wouldn't be interested. This gem has been sadly overlooked too often. Back in the days when she was in her prime, it was often played on the radio as was another gem, "Don't Make Promises" (from her "I Don't Know How to Love Him" album). Incomprehensibly, it's very hard to find these songs included in her many collections. But, since this one at least included "And I Love You So," I chose it. While a lot of her hits are justly here, other standouts are still missing, like the aforementioned "Don't Make Promises." Finally, this talented lady sang so many great songs along with great musicians arranging, conducting and performing with her, what we should have by now is a Two CD set at least. Then maybe we'd finally have something a lot closer to a truly adequate compilation. I dropped a star on this because the sound isn't what it should be. Decent to be sure, but not the kind of remastered treatment it should be. Oh when will we really have a Helen Reddy collection worthy of her (and her awesome body of work) and us?
