I am grateful to be a student at Barnard. I've made lifelong friends and studied with my dream professors. I truly cannot imagine myself at a different college, however, Barnard definitely has its fair share of flaws within the institution and the student body.
Institutionally, Barnard doesn't really listen to student grievances. They give poor aid packages, dining options for dietarily restricted students, and transparency regarding certain policies. Institutional transphobia is rampant as well.
Additionally, many Barnard students are elitist and cliquey, so it can be difficult to make friends. Just like other PWIs, Barnard has many racially ignorant students, making campus uncomfortable for POC. Despite the queer friendliness expected of a WC, many students are transphobic.
Barnard does have amazing opportunities, campus life, and education, but it's important to know the flaws that accompany that.

While the administration is having trouble reflecting the true needs of the students right now, my experience has been very rewarding so far. The academics are rigorous, but it always feels like the professors really want you to do well. There are plenty of opportunities and events for networking as well as an extensive extracurricular community.
Unless you can afford the $80,000/year tuition this school is not for you. The financial aid office is absolutely awful and will not work with you. Extracurricular experiences (study abroad, for example) are not accessible except for the wealthy. Barnard claims to pride themselves on diversity yet the institution is inaccessible to anyone not in the 1%. The academics are great but there are lots of other places that also have great academics. Save the money for grad school, anything else.
