As Usual, BBC Radio live concert archives are a spotless source of great documents and this Ayers release is a living testimony. Recorded with Kevin's best backing band (The Whole World) , the concert gives you an excellent idea of what Ayers was able to deliver when he wished to do so.
Not only is the track selection an excellent choice through his first three albums, but they are played flawlessly and with much enthousiasm by the group. Ones gets all of his better- known tracks here, from Lady Rachel and May I to the old Soft Machine track Why Are We Sleeping. But be aware that Ayer's best studio albums are not really represented here as Confessions was yet to be recorded and Shooting at The Moon is strangely absent from the selection.
This album can serve as the best introduction to Ayer's world, knowing that you get tracks from his first three albums and not the longest ones. But a fitting intro, it is!!
