Norwich City reach full agreement to sign Ashley Barnes

Sources: Norwich City agree deal to sign Ashley Barnes

Norwich City are set to sign Burnley striker Ashley Barnes on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Canaries have reached a full agreement with the 33-year-old forward and a deal is set to be finalised soon.

Barnes is set to become a free agent imminently with his current Burnley deal set to expire this summer, and Norwich have moved quickly to secure his signature.

After it became clear that Barnes wouldn’t sign a new deal at Turf Moor, a number of clubs expressed interest in signing the experienced striker but it is Norwich who have won the race for him.

David Wagner’s side have been on the lookout for a new forward after it was confirmed that Teemu Pukki would leave Carrow Road at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Finnish striker has been a reliable source of goals for Norwich during his five years at the club, scoring 88 times in 210 matches.

Barnes will arrive in Norfolk to help fill the void left by Pukki’s departure, and Wagner is hopeful that his experience in English football will help him immediately provide goals for the side.

The Clarets striker has spent the past nine years with Burnley after signing for the Lancashire club from Brighton in 2014.

He has scored 55 goals for Burnley in 293 total appearances, including 42 goals in the Premier League.

Barnes remained a crucial player under Vincent Kompany this season, with seven league goals and three assists in 1,896 minutes of action helping the club to the Championship title.
