Rock Musician, Film Documentary Subject. Arthur "Killer" Kane was the cofounder and bass guitarist of the New York Dolls, who released two albums: "New York Dolls" (1973), and "Too Much Too Soon" (1974). The group, considered the wildest of all the Bowie-inspired "glitter rock" bands, pioneered punk rock and hugely influenced the glam/metal scene of the 1980s. After the Dolls broke up in 1975, Kane played in various unsuccessful bands, and suffered from acute alcoholism. During a period in hospital, he converted to Mormonism, and found a day job working for the church's Family History Center in Los Angeles. In 2004, British singer Morrissey put together a New York Dolls reunion tour in England, which Kane joined for several shows, playing for both original and new fans, and recapturing some of the fame and recognition he had thirty years earlier. Tragically, he had to cancel from the tour after suffering from flu-like symptoms; after checking into a hospital, he was diagnosed with leukemia, and died days later. After being held for a long period of time, Kane's corpse was cremated, and turned over to his wife Barbara, who still possesses the cremains as of this writing. Arthur Kane's return to the rock spotlight is the subject of a documentary film, "New York Doll."
