It's nice being able to go to the beach with the dogs. There's doggy water stations next to the restaurant, and a $10 wash/dry station which does a great job. Parking is very limited, but there's usually a few spots in the residential area across the street.
We visited here with our pup and our friends' pups, it was a delight to see the puppers run around off leashes, exploring the water, sand, and rocks, prancing and playing with other pups there. It was a large area and plentiful spots to sit in the sun as your fur babies splash and play.
ArroyoBurroBeach, also known as Hendry's Beach, is the local "off leash" beach for dog lovers. Steep bluffs (that can/will drop rocks!) tower over a mostly flat beach characterized by jutting rocks, tidepools and a band of pebbles at the waterline.
Best times to go are several hours into a receding tide, when the beach widens up for your pooches. Doggy cleanup bags are provided and the beach was fairly clean when we visited in April 2015. From the parking lot, go "left" at the beach for the off-leash area.
Dog washing station is a huge plus! There's also a bar/grill with outdoor seating if you get the urge.
Honestly, has anyone ever been to a clean dog beach that doesnt smell like piss? I think not! There's some seaweed on the sand but come on.. this beach is so clean and my doggies love it! 10/10 recommend
I took my 9 month old puppy to ArroyoBurro's off-leash dog area (Henry's Beach) and HE HAD A BLAST!!
He normally fears water (he runs the other way when he sees lawn sprinklers going off), but when the soft waves came rushing in, he ran through and enjoyed the waves! It was such a joy to watch him!
In the same trip, I also stopped at two other off-leash dog beaches (Old Port and Morro Bay), and this was by far my favorite. It was clean, people were friendly, dogs were friendly, and there was even a doggie wash ($10).
We are most definitely returning to ArroyoBurro. DOG FRIENDLY APPROVED!
Wow!!! What a fantastic beach that I had the pleasure of visiting on this Memorial Holiday weekend. It was a cloudy day but there were plenty of people coming and going. I like this beach because of its clear & easy pathway to the beach. I even got to see some dolphin. This beach is located in Santa Barbara, CA off of Cliffs Drive. You drive into the parking lot and you walk onto the beach. Also, there is a wonderful restaurant where you can eat and have drinks. I've attached some pics. Enjoy!!!
I love this dog beach. There is free parking. There is a dog wash station. There are clean public restaurants. There is an area for dogs on-leash and a huge and safe area for dogs off-leash. My dog and I are always on the off-leash side. There are huge mountains, so you don't have to worry your dog running into the parking lot or street. It's never too busy, so we have always been able to find a spot that gives us space.
We took my friends dog to the beach after we ate at Hendry's and it was so nice and relaxing. She doesn't go off leash but she had an amazing time and ran her little grinch paws through the water! She was so happy. We'll bring her back again! All the other doggies were really friendly too and it's nice to have a dog bath and free parking! Santa Barbra is pretty great!
BEWARE OF THIS WOMAN AND HER DOG ON THE BEACH. HER DOG ATTACKS OTHER DOGS.
so here's what happened last Sunday when we were at the beach. Our golden doodle puppy Jordan was so happy going to the beach for the first time this summer until this woman's dog( who she claimed it was her mothers dog) attacked Jordan and bit him that caused two deep cuts on his tongue. after this happened she was trying to walk away so we went up to her and told her what happened and she needs to take the responsibility but all she said was Jordan would be okay and refused to give us any her contact information bc she said she's not responsible for what her dog did since it's an off the leash dog beach and that's what dogs do. dog owners like this woman should honestly be banned from going to the beach with their dog off the leash.
My choco lab loves this dog beach!!! Parking is free and limited. It does get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. The people are nice and the dogs seem happy and friendly. I haven't encountered any problems here. My dog loves going in the swimming pool but yet she's afraid of the ocean waves. Luckily at this beach they have a creek side. That's where my dog would rather swim at. It's perfect for her to go fetch the ball. The beach is clean. The dog owners have been picking up after their dogs do their business. I highly recommend this beach for big and little dogs. By the way, the best part is it's off leash!!!
We take our dog to this beach if we want the freedom of an advertised off leash dog beach (compared to Rosie's in Long Beach, this is much better in our opinion). No matter if it's the weekend, this beach is much less chaotic than Rosie's albeit much more quaint. We love how the off leash doggie side extends down the cliff into more of a private walkway. The views are gorgeous. Then there is a beautiful Oceanside walking path from Santa Barbara all the way down to Montecito that is perfect to start or end the day with.
Arrived on a heatwave day (YESTERDAY). Left the hotel at 9 and arrived in 15m. Prior to arriving we were warned by the gas attendant that every beach would be massively crowded (at 9am???). We arrived and it had a pretty decent sized parking lot. We found a spot and there were still half a dozen spots, no problem.
i think what makes this beach popular is that it has a restaurant on site. any beach with concessions or food would be popular. It appears to be a very popular dog park, too. Next time, we will skip this beach. While we love animals, it just was inundated and at 9am there was fresh nasty poop on the ground leading to the beach. Shame on you, whoever isn't picking up after your poops. NO BUENO!!!!
We were informed by a surfer that one side is for the dogs and the other side is the 'no dog zone'. There is a guy on a golf cart who patrols and there were a bunch of dog owners who were in the wrong zone, either intentionally or unintentionally. Perhaps signs at the entrance may be helpful.
The walk once you get away from the entrance is nice. I would imagine any of these local beautiful beaches would be awesome for sunsets. unfortunately, we are in and out and won't be able to experience that. For sure, next time!
I've been coming to this beach forever now and my dog and I are one of the regulars and we just love it! Honestly, I think my dog runs the pack because they really just follow her around all day, but thats besides the point
Such beautiful sand and such a beautiful play area! Love it here!
Great beach for a small party, to take a stroll, or to bring your pup. There is an off-leash section for your dog to socialize and a small restaurant that fills the air with delicious food smells. The air here is fresh and crisp compared to many other beaches in Southern California.
My friends an I joked about reviewing a beach or even checking to see if a beach would even have reviews. well it did :D an it happen to be a 4.5 star. :D well I can agree! I will round up an give it a 5. the 4.5 I would deem the huge body of water/sess pool with green algae, an the poor parking. The reason for the .5 under the full 5.
Features : DOGS! DOGS! DOGS! dogs to the left. (but if you dont mind dogs the whole beach is yours!) Full Service SitDown Restaurant , with clever side beach food window for the beach goers with no shirt no shoes. Very Great atmosphere! everybody was really cool we played a 3 on 3 2 hand touch football an a time or 2 went wide with the throw on accident. an everysingle person smiled threw the ball back or we went an grabbed it real quick. without any complaints all smiles an waves ! we dodged dogs, an even some dogs played with us! it was great! AWESOME VIBES! truely!
NEgatives :/ Parking, Joke. narrow tight parking. line extending to the street. Huge water sesspool with algee. on the dog side(Left) so they drink out of it( NOT GOOD) standing water!. what is it from? its gross.
more positives than negatives thats forsure ! Yes i reviewed a beach! it must have been something if I reviewed it wouldn't ya say?
