Sacchi claims Milan must show ‘strong hearts’ in ‘deadly’ start to the season

Former AC Milan head coach Arrigo Sacchi believes that the Rossoneri will face a very tough start to the 2022-23 season because of the hectic nature of their fixture list.

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi spoke about the upcoming Serie A season after the revealing of the fixture which took place yesterday, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“It will be an unpredictable Serie A. Those who know how to adapt to various situations as quickly as possible will have an advantage,” he began.

It will be a peculiar season because there will be a break for a few weeks in the middle of the campaign to allow players to jet off to Qatar to represent their country at the World Cup in November and December, or enjoy some rest if – like in Italy’s case – their country did not quality.

“The players will be squeezed and it is unknown how they will return. For the big players it will be a real tour de force with 7 games per month and the risk of injuries much higher. We need large squads and serious professionals off the pitch,” Sacchi said.

You can see the full list from Rounds 1 to 38 here, and it is worth noting how Milan face tricky away trips to Atalanta and Sassuolo in the second and fourth rounds, then the first derby of the season comes, with Napoli and Juventus coming to San Siro in Rounds 7 and 9.

The first round of Champions League group stage games is scheduled for the midweek after the Derby della Madonnina clash in Round 5, and the second group game will be before the away match against Napoli, so it will be a chaotic and demanding start.

“The start for Milan is deadly. Seven league matches and two Champions League matches close to the challenges with Inter and Napoli. Start for strong hearts,” Sacchi added.
