Some states require 10-digit dialing for all outgoing calls. If you make calls from one of these states, you must include the area code in addition to the 7-digit phone number for call to succeed. To avoid problems, you may want to update the contacts in your address book and any stored phone numbers for services such as call forwarding, call screening, and call blocking.
If you live in California area code 408 or 669, you must dial 1 plus the area code and the 7-digit number.
Note: Most 3-digits numbers, such as 911 and 411, don’t require an area code.
