Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast High School Reviews
Rating 4.04 out of 5 80 reviews
By the end of my time at the school, it began to feel more like a correctional facility than a high school. They became very strict and started restricting our freedoms in the school. While I understand there were kids who liked to break the rules, making the whole school suffer because of their actions was not fair. They also lacked a consistent Spanish teacher which has hindered my college career. Other than that, there were many gems within the faculty and staff. The fine and performing arts were a highlight of my experience there, and there were only a select few teachers at the school I did not like. The guidance department had its gems as well, but most of the other administrative departments sucked. I would not send my kids there, but that is just me.
The best part about Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast is definitely the student community. You feel like you are friends with everyone even if it I your first time meeting them. Every student there is eager to help you out and will always be there to lift you up. It is not like other schools where you are nervous to engage with others. There are still things I would like to see change about the school though. The facilities, especially the bathrooms, are often time dirty and or out of use. The administration has also recently implemented rules banning schoolbags and only allowing students to use clear reusable water bottles. They have also taken away a lot of school traditions that many were looking forward to. I can see where they are coming from with their rules, I feel there could have been alternative routes they could have taken to address these issues. The amazing school community and fantastic teachers make my school what it is.
My time at Bonner, for the most part has been pleasant. All of the teachers I've had have been helpful and understanding and the students are welcoming and kind, but the administration is quite unpleasant and all interactions you have with them seem to be unwelcoming and less conversational. I feel they often do not ask student opinions and if they do, they are talking at you rather than with you. A change I would like to see within my school community is the administrators asking feedback from the students and parents. I would also like them to take the time to converse with students, greet them in the hallways, etc. Other than that, I enjoyed this school and do not regret the last four years I've spent here. I have learned a lot and advanced academically and morally.
